"We recently used LUX & Owens Corning products to remodel the basement of our Cape Cod residence. We had a typical unfinished basement. Lux promised to finish the project in two to three weeks. Even with the challenges of both obtaining materials and workman these days they did as promised. LUX finished exactly in two weeks! We are talking metal framing, walls, flooring , ceilings, heating, venting, and tearing down "construction stairs" and building beautiful custom oak stairs and railing! The project manager (David, 20 yrs. with LUX) was exemplary in communicating and answering all of our questions as well as being there either in person or by telephone at our beckoned call, even after hours. The electrical team was in and out in one day (with a few hour follow up later). The remainder of ALL of the work, framing, flooring, ceilings wall to wall including the stairs was all done by ONE worker, Luis (19 yrs. with LUX). He worked 10 hour days and took the time to do the work as if it was his own basement telling me "you paid good money, you deserve good workmanship"! I cannot recommend LUX more! Don't let the price of the product scare you away, yes the product is pricy but the quality of the workmanship, the efficiency of the workers and the warranty of the product is well worth the cost. I did my research and suggest you do as well. LUX is rated an excellent company . Kevin Cape Cod MA."

"Overall, the finishing of my basement went pretty smooth. The Owens Corning product, drop down ceiling, and flooring are all really sharp. In the beginning everything went fast and smooth with the framing and wall/floor/ceiling install being done within 2 weeks. There were some hiccups with minor imperfections, tv mount in wrong spot, etc. Those were fixed promptly. After that is when I ran into issues with other items in my contract that were not taken care of and the project felt forgot about. Just had some minor electric work, stairs to get carpeted, and didn't receive hanging clips yet. I had to constantly ask about these items and every answer would be "I forgot to ask or send the clips". I eventually got the items completed, but am not happiest that it took almost a month and constant reminding to get these items that should've been scheduled for during the project."

"I called Neary Construction for an estimate of my roof. He was VERY prompt in returning my calls and getting the estimate to me..My husband and I both felt that his pricing was extremely reasonable,so we hired him

Billy told us the start date and the finish date. I had picked out a light gray color for the roofing but when Billy saw how many trees were around our house, he suggested a darker color which also went well with the house color....He told me the light color would get dirty and look awful in  a short time....Something I did not think about..

He and his crew came right on time the day he said.....they worked very hard while they were here....I never felt like they were in the way......they worked long hours and very hard. ....when they left each day, they left everything very neat....the roof has been on awhile...about 5 or 6 years and we have never had an issue with it at all. The doors Billy put on look loverly and no issues with them either.

We had that bad flooding two or so years ago and my finished basement got flooded.  The company I hired for the waterproofing did a great job with that EXCEPT they left my house and yard in shambles....not very neat...so I called Billy in  again...he helped me tear up tiles that were cemented on very tightly and then built a beautiful cabinet to cover the sump pump battery which was huge and an eyesore...He made sure that there was plenty of room inside to be able to get access to the pump and battery in case we need to get in there, and the company is able to get inside to service it...He thought of everything...

I am thinking about remodeling my kitched next and taking down a wall...Neary Construction will be the company I call for that...Billy is a perfectionist and works hard and long hours.....he does not start something and leave you waiting while he starts another project. I have seen photos of his work and it is fabulous. His pricing is very fair and the quality of work is worth every penny....Oh, I should say, too , that I felt very comfortable having Billy and his crew around and could even leave the house while they were here.

Billy is full of great ideas to fit every budget so I feel that no matter what project you do he can help you stay within your budget...I think that is HUGE...so many contactors try and get you to spend more ....So happy I found Billly Neary of Neary Construction!"

"JR and his crew were such a pleasure to work with. They were responsive, prompt, and hard working professionals. Our project involved replacement of soffits and eaves, replacement of two windows and a door, ceiling repair, sheet rock work, painting, and whole house pressure washing. We could not be happier. I would highly recommend JR and his crew for any of your home renovation/maintenance needs, big or small. They are the best!"

"We hired Casieri Construction Company to add two new porches off the front of our house. They were a pleasure to work with. James finished the job on schedule and was very courteous. They did a great job cleaning up once the job was complete. The new porches are high quality and look fantastic. Our neighbor across the street even commented on how much the porches improved the aesthetics of our home. I highly recommend Casieri Construction Company."

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

If your popcorn ceiling is asbestos-free and you are ready for a new look, painting is an option. As long as there is no flaking or other wear, a new coat of paint might be just the thing to refresh the old ceiling. The best way to paint a popcorn ceiling is to use either a paint sprayer or a thick roller to cover the popcorn texture fully. (Do not forget to dust it off beforehand!)

“Note that if you eventually want to remove the popcorn ceiling, a painted ceiling is a labor-intensive job to remove and will cost more,” says Bob Tschudi. “Once painted, the process of removing the popcorn ceiling requires physical scraping as opposed to a spray-and-scrape approach. It’s very labor-intensive, and thus more costly.”

Priming a popcorn ceiling before painting is a good idea, especially if the ceiling is stained, discolored, or has never been painted. Interior paint primer helps seal the surface, preventing stains from bleeding through and allowing the paint to adhere better. Use a stain-blocking, water-based primer for best results.

The cost to repair a ceiling after a water leak can vary, with averages ranging from $419 to $1,359, or $45 to $55 per square foot. Smaller patches may cost around $150. The final price depends on the size of the affected area and the extent of the damage. Remember that you will also need to repair the source of the leak, such as roof damage or a plumbing issue, which can cost an additional $200 to $1,550. Depending on the situation, you might also face costs for repainting or repairing floors. For an accurate estimate, it is best to get a quote from a professional.

In most cases, it is worth removing popcorn ceilings because they are considered outdated and can make a home more difficult to sell. Buyers typically prefer a smooth, modern finish, so removing the texture can increase a home's value and appeal. The necessity can sometimes depend on the housing market; in a competitive market, buyers may be more willing to overlook minor renovations. The most critical factor is the potential presence of asbestos, which is common in older popcorn ceilings and poses a significant health hazard if the material deteriorates. If you know your ceiling contains asbestos, you are required to disclose this when selling, which can be a major deterrent for buyers. In this situation, it is highly recommended to have a professional remove or encapsulate the ceiling to resolve the issue before it impacts the sale.

Yes. Sagging ceilings often indicate more severe problems, such as structural damage, roof leaks, and pest infestations. As the sagging expands, your ceiling may eventually collapse, posing a threat to your physical safety and leading to expensive repair and restoration costs. That’s why you need to fix sagging ceilings as soon as you notice them.
