"Tim and his helper arrived on time and proceeded to efficiently take care of reviving a stagnant garden fountain. Tim clearly knows all about water features and offered suggestions for its continued maintenance. He even went and purchased several rice fish and introduced them to their new home. Both young men were courteous and careful taking time time to prune back overgrown bushes and branches. I highly recommend them for any work on fountain and pond construction and maintenance."

"After we built a new house, we interviewed landscapers to achieve what turned out to be a difficult request. We had a large front yard and wanted NO grass but rather stones and rocks and boulders to mimic a lodge. All landscapers were polite, and all indicated that to place so much stone in such a large area would be difficult and would not look good--except for Helstowski. Most landscapers did not have any idea how to create such a massive display of stone--except for Helstowski Tree and Landscaping. The owner Justyn assigned landscaper Luke (and later Bree) to create a lodge-like appearance. The workers created three mounds on which trees and bushes were placed, a fountain flowing over natural rock, and a gravel walkway from the street to the house. We have our pollinator bed of plants to encourage butterflies and bees. The whole yard is sprinkled with pine, spruce, and deciduous trees, as well as flowering bushes. The finished yard is an amazing creation. Thank you, thank you, Justyn Helstowski."

Fountains questions, answered by experts

You have several options for your pond by getting your yard ready for the winter. You can winterize your koi pond by ensuring it’s at least 5 feet deep so it doesn’t freeze completely, installing a pond heater or aerator and having it run at all times, and installing a deicer if temperatures are dangerously low for an extended period. You can also choose to shut down your pond for the winter by removing all the wildlife in it and bringing it indoors, cleaning out the filter and pump, and then covering the pond with a tarp.

How many fish can call your pond home depends on the volume of the pond and the fish size. Your pond's filtration system also influences the number of fish that will thrive in a pond. A general rule of thumb is to have 1 inch of fish for every square foot in a pond that's 2 feet deep. Another rule of thumb you can follow is to have one koi fish for every 200 gallons of water or two goldfish for every 200 gallons.

Smaller, pondless water features like bird baths, self-contained fountains, and bubbling rocks are much lower maintenance than their counterparts that include ponds. Pondless features help you avoid high pond maintenance costs and allow you to spend more time enjoying the water feature and less time on upkeep.

Fountain maintenance is an important part of having a clean foundation in the first place. To keep your fountain water clean, you can use a water additive designed specifically to limit scale, algae, and other buildup in fountains. Or opt to use white vinegar as a pantry-ready water additive.

One of the most important parts of building a pond is digging the right depth. Your pond needs to be at least one to two feet deep. The specifics of the depth will depend on factors such as the placement of the pond and whether you plan on having fish. If you have fish in your pond, it will need to be at least two feet deep.
