"Ryan did excellent work. He explained everything so I could understand it. In just a few hours he rewired my electric heating system in my duplex. For the first time since I moved here (14 months) my heat is completely off !! I would give him 10 stars if it was possible, but here I would give him 5 stars."

"I had solar panels installed by SunPower's subcontractor Hooked on Solar in 2020. In 2023 some of the panels were damaged by an electrical outage and surge. It took about 4 months for Hooked on Solar to identify the damaged panels, schedule an appointment to replacement, but finally they fixed the panels."

"My residential solar system was installed in 2008. As many of you might know, the solar panels usually last longer than the inverters. I was able to locate an exact inverter match when the original went bad but had trouble finding someone who was willing to change out my inverter. It seems not many companies, none that I could find, were willing to work on my system because they hadn’t installed it. These guys answered their phone and were happy to do a service call. Happy I found them."

"Overall a great experience, the system on the vacation home is working great! Jake helped guide us through the solar buying process and effectively explained all the benefits without pressuring us into buying anything we weren’t comfortable with. Definitely would work with him again."

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

Yes, installing solar panels or a solar roof can increase your home's value by approximately 4% to 6%. For a home with a median value of $429,000, this could translate to an increase of around $17,000. A well-maintained solar installation appeals to environmentally-conscious buyers and those looking to lower their utility bills, often helping homes sell faster and at a premium in areas with high electricity rates. However, the exact increase in value depends on factors like the local real estate market, energy costs, and available solar incentives. It's also important that the system is correctly installed and maintained; an older or poorly maintained system may not add significant value, particularly if it's near the end of its lifespan. Other solar features, like panels on a shed, can also boost your home's value.

The actual time it takes to construct the solar farm is relatively short, taking between 2 and 4 months on average. That timeline is dependent on site conditions, crew size, and the overall size of the solar farm.

However, the time it takes to get the ball rolling is significantly longer, ranging from 3 to 5 years. With a project of this scale, you’ll need to obtain all of the proper permits and approvals to start breaking ground, and depending on your location, that could be an extended process.

Not all homes are suited for solar panel systems. Older roofs or those in poor condition may need repairs or replacement before solar panels can be installed. Some other factors to consider are the amount of sunlight your roof receives, the roof’s orientation and pitch, and any shading from nearby trees or buildings.

Yes, solar panel installation will require permits. The required permits will depend on where you live, as some states and cities have solar-specific permits, while others only require electrical permits to connect to the grid. In either case, it’s best to hire a reputable solar installer in your area, as a representative should handle all of the necessary permitting for you and will include the cost of the permits in your initial solar estimate.

While solar panels can be a great investment, they aren’t ideal for every roof. For example, some roofs, especially older or structurally weak ones, may struggle to support the added weight, leading to potential damage. Roofs with complex designs, obstructions, or limited sunlight exposure might not provide optimal conditions for solar energy production. Consider these downsides when determining if solar panel installation costs are worth it.
