Cutting down a dead tree is always strongly advisable. Aside from being an eyesore, a dead tree can be extremely hazardous, especially when it’s near people or structures. Even if the tree isn’t near your home, it can still harbor pests and diseases that can potentially spread to nearby plants and homes.

You kill ivy permanently by cutting it at the root and applying herbicide. You can also tear out ivy at the roots to remove it and apply herbicide as an extra measure. Covering the area with at least two inches thick of mulch or leaves can prevent future growth. Watch the area for any regrowth and kill regrowth immediately.
