"I recently had artificial turf installed in my back yard by Intelliturf. It looks amazing!! Because of very large trees and very little sun I could never have grass in my back yard. The turf is perfect, very easy to maintain. Jeff and his crew were professional, hardworking and always pleasant."

Small jobs welcome

"Marc went above and beyond when installing a yard drainage system in our side yard. He was quick to give us a competitive quote, easy to work with, and got a complicated job done fast. I would highly recommend him for homeowners looking to modify the slope and or drainage plan for their plot."

"Todd was excellent - a complete professional. Dependable, punctual, and totally delivered what he said he would. I had existing stone walls that needed repair. Another person had been sloppy while reinforcing some loose stones. Todd removed what he did, making the walls look spectacular - just like the original stone walls. He also fixed a stone walkway that was a mess. Many people do not want to bother getting into a mess created by someone else, but Todd accepted the challenge and did a great job. I would recommend him without hesitation."

"We had 1-2 inches of water in our basement due to a very high-water table, this spring. We received other water proofing vendor quotes but when Adam came out, he first surveyed our outside foundation landscape pitch and down spout drains and knowledgably pointed out that we should, 1st, correct these deficiencies. Then, Adam and I collaborated over a couple of months to come up with an inside basement water proofing drainage design that met my specific requirements. This resulted in installing perimeter drainage pipes at the footing level. Adam was meticulous and precise with marking his floor cut lines and determining drainpipe slope that exceeded typical minimum specs. I was impressed by the way he carefully thought through the design and any obstacles encountered along with his attention to the small details. We jointly decided on selecting an ION dual sump pump system with electronic water sensing (no moving parts) and wall mounted controller which alternates pumping between the two pumps. Although cost was a bit more than the typical Home Depot pumps, this system even allows us to see and set the water level in the basin at which pumping will start at the push of a button on the wall controller, so we can reduce the number of pump cycles, to extend their life, if we so choose. The system can even notify us if a system error occurs or if water exceeds the 'high level' setting. We are extremely pleased with the overall design and system and genuinely thank Adam for his professional collaboration and attention to detail at a reasonable cost and overall 'job well done'! I highly recommend Adam for any masonry, water proofing and construction projects and would definitely call him again for any new project."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

During the fall, you’re likely to see foliage in stunning shades of orange, red, yellow, and brown. These colors emerge because of a seasonal decline in the pigment chlorophyll that makes leaves green.

The best type of rock for landscaping depends on your specific project and needs, as different rocks are suited for different applications. For covering large areas or creating an affordable driveway, consider gravel, but note that it can wash away in flowing water. For water features, river rocks are a good option. Flagstone and cobblestone are ideal for aesthetically pleasing patios and walkways. If you are building a stone wall, fieldstone or small boulders are up to the task. Large boulders and landscape rocks work well as statement pieces, to fill empty space, or to indicate boundaries, but be mindful that they can overwhelm smaller gardens. The best approach is to first define your landscaping project and then select the rock type that best fits that purpose.

A half inch above ground level is ideal for metal edging. This provides enough depth for the edging to hold in place and enough height to keep in most landscaping materials (like mulch or gravel). If you install edging too high off the ground, it will stand out from your landscaping and pose a tripping risk. If you install it too low, your ground cover won’t stay in place.

Most experts recommend a quarter-inch layer of compost for best results, and you will need about .77 cubic yards of material per 1,000 square feet. To measure how much compost to use, take the square footage of your yard and multiply it by .77, then divide that number by 1,000.

A scattering of leaves won’t pose a problem through the winter, but a thicker layer of leaves may not decompose before the first frost and can instead weigh down your grass and harbor mold or fungi. A thick layer of leaves also cuts off light and air that grass needs to grow. That’s why we suggest removing thick leaf layers within several days if possible. If your lawn goes dormant over the winter and snow has already caught up with you, then remove the leaves in early spring before your grass-growing season starts so your lawn can thrive.
