"I had 4 companies come out, 2 of them stating I needed a sump pump without even looking outside, or listening to other solutions I had from from other contractors. I HIGHLIGHLY recommend Mastercraft Waterproofing They told me that I absolutely did NOT need a sump pump and it was an issue with the sealing on the outside of the chimney. Water was coming through one of the seams. This was the only company who looked inside and outside on my property. Their work has a lifetime guarantee for what I had done, and saved me $1,000. Tom and Rob are the owners and came out for the quote, and were the ones who did the work. Personable, professional, reliable and cannot recommend them enough. They sent a follow up email for additional recommendations long term, with pictures of the project from start to finish. Please call them if you have water in your basement instead of these large companies who will tell you that you have a huge pool of water surrounding your house. Mastercraft Waterproofing does it all and will be able to help!"

"I was impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. He installed a French drain system with a vapor barrier on the walls. He prepped the area to protect our belongings, made sure everything was cleaned up after the end of each day, and provided exceptional service and quality. I would highly recommend him!"

"The crew that came out to do the work were on time and very friendly. Communication throughout the process was excellent (this includes the scheduling with the office and the crew with regards to when they would arrive, etc.). We are happy with the trench drain that they installed and would recommend them to others."

"Recently had annual maintenance performed on our basement sump pump system . Louie our tech was courteous, on time and tidy. Would highly recommend this company if you have a basement water problem. We've had our system for at least 15 years and never a drop of water in basement!"

"Highly recommended. Mike and his partner did an excellent job helping us with water mitigation in our finished basement. I wish I had worked with them prior to having finished my basement, but they helped us now with a well planned drainage system. Mike took the time to explain the project and estimate. We could reach him anytime, and he maintained great communication. After the project, Mike followed up to ensure our problem was solved. This team will get the job done for you, reliably and professionally."

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

You can seal a concrete slab by cleaning the surface, filling in any cracks, etching the surface, applying a sealer, and letting it dry. Concrete slabs don't typically need sealing, but you can use a topical concrete sealer if you notice signs of water damage. If you haven't already fixed the cause of the leak, then you'll want to repair the plumbing before you seal a concrete slab.

Make sure you're calling in the right expert to help repair and/or clean your crawl space. A serious issue may require multiple experts that include a local mold remediation pro, an HVAC pro, a foundation pro, and a plumber. You should also consider using a nearby junk removal service to avoid handling debris that could be covered in mold, fungi, rot, or asbestos.

While a standard gutter system is widely considered the most effective way to prevent water damage to your home's foundation, several alternatives are available. These options can be used on their own in certain climates or as supplementary protection.

Common alternatives include:

  • Rain Chains: These are decorative chains that hang from the roof's edge, guiding rainwater to the ground.

  • Drip Edges: These metal strips are installed at the edge of the roof to direct water away from the fascia. While often used with gutters, they can be paired with a ground-level solution but are typically not sufficient on their own.

  • Rain Dispersal Systems: These systems work by breaking up the heavy sheet of water flowing off the roof, dispersing it over a wider area.

  • French Drains: This ground-level system uses a perforated pipe in a gravel-filled trench to collect and redirect water runoff away from the house.

  • Drip Paths: Placed directly below the roofline, these paths made of concrete, stone, or other materials prevent soil erosion and guide water away.

It's important to note that some alternatives like rain chains and dispersal systems may not be adequate in regions with heavy rainfall because they don't divert water away from the foundation as effectively as a full gutter system. Ground-based solutions like French drains can be very effective but are often more expensive and can affect your landscaping and curb appeal. Many experts recommend installing a full gutter system for maximum protection and using alternatives as supplementary measures.

Yes, you can finish a basement that leaks, as long as you address the leak first. Before finishing a basement, you’ll need to repair any cracks in the walls and waterproof the basement to prevent future leaks. It’s much harder to clean up a water leak from a finished basement than an unfinished one, so preemptively addressing any leaking areas prevents expensive repairs in the future.

Mold growth is just one common sign of excess moisture in the bathroom. You may also see the paint in the room start to peel away from the walls, or that the walls remain wet for some time after you bathe.

Condensation on the windows is another sign that your bathroom has a potential moisture problem. The room itself may start to smell like mildew.
