"Emmett replaced 7 interior doors for me, he was always on time with his schedule, he is by far the neatest contractor I have ever had, would definitely hire him again if I need a door carpenter , & I have already referred Emmett to family member that needs new doors at their house. He is a very personable & a pleasure to have working at my house. Debbie Kelley"

"Angi’s List recommended several pros for our project. The Musaku Brothers Handymen were the first to call us back and they were able to come out the next day to give us a quote. The Musaku Brothers quote was fair, honest and reasonable. Their recommendations were smart and significantly reduced our up front costs. These are family guys looking out for other families. They had time to fit our project in while they were waiting for a building inspector to check another home, so they were at work on our home within a day. Their work is of excellent quality. They replaced several windows and ensured that they were properly sealed. They replaced the treads on our basement stairs, fixed the frame of an interior door, repaired exterior flashing and fixed the door on one of our cabinets. We have already lined them up for a few more projects and we intend to keep them coming back for future projects. They are busy and we totally see why. Thanks guys!"

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Permits are necessary to comply with local building codes, ensuring safety and adherence to zoning regulations, and are vital for successful construction.

Yes, many kinds of building permits exist for various projects in and outside your home. Each city sets the permit categories, but they typically cover new construction, alterations, and demolition. For example, you will need a different permit to finish a basement than you would tear down the patio.

Yes, home builders need to be licensed in every state and municipality in the country. The specific license required varies based on the location and the work, but most states require that the builder hold a general contractor’s license at minimum. Some states and cities also require that plumbing, electrical, roofing, and sewage system construction require individual licenses, in which case the builder may subcontract the work. You can use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to confirm that the builder you’re considering holds all the proper licenses.

There's no simple answer to which is less costly: wood or metal-framed homes. In most cases, metal building components cost more than wooden ones, while entire metal buildings cost less than wooden versions. However, regardless of the exterior framing or structure, each must meet similar building codes. This means that the costs are about the same, even considering that wood will require more maintenance than metal over time.

Wooden carports offer aesthetic appeal, durability, and customization options compared to metal alternatives.
