"Since John is a licensed broker, we trusted him to bring us qualified tenants. Instead, his office brought us a tenant and represented that he had "good credit and excellent references," and said he was moving because the house where he had been living was being sold. He lived in our apartment for seven months but did not pay any rent for five of those months. The lost rent and eviction costs for us totaled more than $20,000. John's office deceived us and did not exercise the mandate of licensed brokers to do proper credit checks, etc. on potential renters. The truth was the tenant he brought us had been evicted two days earlier and was heavily in debt."
