Mavridis Contracting Services, Inc fully licensed and insured company has been in business for over 20 years servicing all your home improvements and general contracting needs. We specialize in all aspects of home remodeling, additions and decks. We provide craftmanship work, attention to detail and professionalism.

"I wanted a shower expanded. George Mavridis's estimate was very competitive but I hired him because I knew he was honest, quality focused and an open communicator. He has a small crew and excellent subs so he's not super fast. But Mavridis is excellent. One example: The shower needed a new fan, vented through the attic roof. The attic boards were all cut (before my time) in half when insulation was installed. The attic floor was unstable and unsafe. George was very busy but he had his team replace the boards with plywood panels...for 20% less than I expected. Why? Because he wanted to make sure I would be happy when the job was done. I could give 4-5 other examples but you get the point. If you hire George, you'll be pleased."

Fire alarms, fire departments, sprinklers, and insurance are only effective AFTER a fire has started... why not PREVENT the fire from starting? I am the president of the CODEpliance, which serves a variety of markets, and directly involved with every aspect of every project. Free estimates/proposals are drafted before any job, and my goal is to discuss product and application details, answer questions, ensure convenient scheduling, and provide seamless service delivery. In the past, flame retardants were highly toxic and available only to industrial and commercial applications. I only use independent lab-certified, food-grade, non-toxic products - to people, pets, and the environment. These formulations are durable enough for commercial construction, but safe to use in a baby nursery. Used nationally in amusement parks, hospitals, daycares, extended care facilities, and schools. The spray on application is quick and long-lasting, with benefits ranging from longer escape times to potential discounts on home insurance premiums.

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Several types of porches are available to meet your needs and style preferences. Some common porch types include:

  • Porticos are essentially a roof over a walkway leading to the home's front entrance.

  • Sunrooms are closed-in porches that are an extension of the house with glass or plastic panels that allow optimal sunlight.

  • Wraparound porches extend around the entire home, or at least the front and one side, and offer multiple entrances to the house.

  • Back porches are an extension of the home’s floor into the outdoors. These offer more protection and privacy than a deck.

A screened-in porch requires maintenance to keep the screens clean and in good shape, and you may have to do some screen repair or replacement from time to time. A screen porch isn’t an all-season porch, so the weather can get in, including wind and rain.

Although composite decking is extremely durable, it’s also susceptible to extreme heat. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause fading, warping, and cracking. Composite also retains heat more than wood, which makes it dangerous to walk on in the summer. You can help prevent heat damage by only building with composite in shaded areas or using rugs to cover the hottest spots.

To maintain a portico, you need to ensure that your portico roof has proper drainage. Poor drainage can lead to water seeping into the wooden structure and eventually causing rot. You’ll also want to regularly clean your portico columns, removing dirt or scuff marks using a clean, wet cloth.

Yes, adding either a porch or deck (or both!) to your home can add value. Both of these features add character and curb appeal to your home, but even more importantly, they add an element of convenience. Plus, these home features create additional square footage of living space to your home. Adding a porch onto your home can give you a return on investment (ROI) of up to 84%, while adding a deck can provide an ROI of up to 80%.
