It went downhill once I received the quote. There were various things that needed to be done throughout my water and ice dam damaged house. They provided a total amount only - no itemization. When I asked to have it somewhat itemized I was told by his office staff that they "don't work that way". Since insurance would be covering some of the work, I asked if they could at least break out that work (structural), so that I could send to insurance - I need to know how much to tell them it is going to cost. They refused and said that they only quote the whole job. So then I said okay, only quote me structural work, forget about everything else for now, because the most critical thing that needs to get done is that, and I need to be able to tell my insurance company how much it will cost. Again they refused. Excuse after excuse why then can't provide me with what I am looking for. It does not make sense why they could not simply say, the Structural work is $XX of the total $85k job. That's it - it is pretty simple! That's all I was asking for, so that I could simply let my insurance company know the amount they are responsible for reimbursing me.
A company that refuses to itemize all, or even just a portion (in my case structural work) is SUSPICIOUS to me. Huge RED FLAG! I mean, everywhere people go, things are itemized, everything small dollar things. At the grocery store, at the restaurant, at the spa, I mean EVERYWHERE, things are itemized. Here I am going to be spending $85k+, and they can't itemize it, even at a hig-level? Ok, fine. I can live with that I guess, even though I don't agree. But then when I ask to just have one thing itemized (for the SOLE purpose of being reimbursed by my insurance company), the structural work, they still refuse?!?!? What kind of business does that? WHAT ARE THEY HIDING?
"We are a RELIABLE, HONEST, LICENSED AND INSURED company. We have over 15 YEARS of EXPERIENCE and never FAILED AN INSPECTION OR WAS FIRED FROM A JOB to begin with. It's coincidentally "funny" how customer mentions SUSPICIOUS AND RED FLAG because that's EXACTLY how we FELT during the estimate visit and here's the reason WHY: during the visit time at the property, the customer said she had FIRED the previous Contractor and didn't say why (he could've left, just saying) AND BY THAT MOMENT NO OTHER CONTRACTOR WANTED TO BID ON THE WORK (talk about an RED FLAG). We found during the estimate that the previous contractor STRUCTURAL WORK was INCORRECT and all the other work remaining was UNCOMPLETED. We felt that this "cut corners" work a bit SUSPICIOUS and raised an RED FLAG. Our impression was that the customer didn't want to proceed with the work the RIGHT WAY because of the cost of it. WE DO NOT CUT CORNERS. We provided an estimate TO DO THE JOB RIGHT. The customer was informed that that's the way we work and even though, tried several times, to push us to provide something that we've explained we couldn't. We should return the question: WHAT ARE YOU HIDING? We are always upfront with our customers as we were with you and told that we were not able to do what you insisted. Overall D for Professionalism, REALLY? The estimate was scheduled and provided in a fashion timely matter, we didn't perform any work, so we deserve a D because your WISH was not satisfied? Hey, good luck with your project I may say!"
