"PAV installed a new laminate Hardwood floor in our Master bedroom. He went to work the day after he was hired and finished the job in just 2 work days, in time for the house to be shown by Realtor the next day! The result was beautiful to behold and impressed the Buyer! PAV is very knowledgeable when it comes to Updates for Kitchen and Baths as well. WE followed the lead of Home Advisor and we're glad we did."

Customers say: Quick response

"Konstantin has become our first call when we have any questions about our house. He personally came to our home and spent a few hours talking with me about possible solutions to the many problems our Cape Cod home had. In the end, the investment of time and money was substantial, but we could not be more happy with the end result: new windows, siding, roof, doors and an extensive interior architectural reconstruction that no one else wanted to touch. The entire Kreative Barnes team is professional, friendly, respectful and talented. Whoever is able to secure Konstantin's expertise will be very happy they did."

"Tullio is really polite, efficient and provides an excellent service. He is also fast and clean. He helped me decide about few things that I wasn't sure about. I'm glad that I hired him and his crew to finish the basement at my house."

"I was very impressed with Sentri Homes - their customer service was excellent. They sent a subcontractor to install some vinyl laminate in my bathroom and he ended up getting glue all over the carpet in our bedroom. The sub ended up ghosting both me and Sentri, leaving me stuck with a ruined carpet. Sentri stuck with me for over a month to get the carpet replaced with the identical original and to get the vinyl job 100% completed. The carpet was a Home Depot exclusive and Sentri handled everything with them. I will be using Sentri for a much bigger renovation I have coming up soon, because I know that they will make sure everything gets done right no matter what problems come up. The vinyl looks great too."

"We have been very happy with both the service and quality of work provided by SeaBreeze Home Construction. The owners, Amanda and Mitchel, are very thorough, fair and knowledgeable. After purchasing a home that needed lots of updating, we hired SeaBreeze to build a new deck which came out great. Mitchel discovered some rot in the existing house member requiring some replacement work. This was accomplished without impacting the schedule. The next project was a full bathroom renovation, which also came out great. We selected and purchased the fixtures and tile. Amanda and Mitchel did everything else, including subcontracting the electrical, plumbing and a minor amount of roofing for the vent fan. We've also had SeaBreeze replace some windows and the shingle siding around them. In all, we are very happy with SeaBreeze and have already asked them to quote some siding and flashing work around a chimney. They are great at accepting feedback and are very responsive. We hope to continue doing business with them as needs arise."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

It usually takes around four to six months to build and install a modular home, although your timeline could go up to around eight months if there are delays in the manufacturing or permitting process. Heavy site preparation and foundation pouring can extend that timeline if you need them, as can customizations you want for your modular home. Your modular home company should be able to provide an estimate for the construction timeline before you sign any contracts or agree to any work.

While it’s never too early to start planning for a major home improvement project like a home addition, give yourself at least a month or two to plan and design your addition, find a contractor, and get the permits in order. For larger projects like a second-story addition that require designing with an architect, plan on three to four months of preparation.

It is a good idea to check in with your local city and state regulations before committing to building a shipping container home no matter where you live. This concept is pretty new across the country, and many places won’t let you build one.

The International Code Council (ICC) offers guidelines for home builders on the safe use of ISO intermodal shipping containers repurposed as building components, which can be helpful to review when planning or designing a shipping container home.

The term “cottage” is subjective, so there’s no rigid definition, but it generally refers to a small home with simple and purposeful architecture that embraces nature and focuses on charm over everything else. Cottages are typically 1 or 1 1/2-stories tall, usually with gabled roofs, and are built out of natural materials that help make the structure a part of the surrounding nature rather than something that stands out from it. A big part of what makes a cottage a cottage is the decor, which includes natural materials from the nearby area.

Yes, you can finance cottage construction through several options. Construction loans provide funds in stages as work progresses, while home equity loans or lines of credit are available if you have existing property. Some lenders offer a combined construction and permanent mortgage. Always review loan terms and payment milestones before committing.
