"They installed 1500 sql of sod in Mid October, prepared the soil very well before that, adding loam where needed. So far I would give a 5. Alber was extremely pleasant, precise, responsive. The work was done very well. The only reason I am not giving a 5 yet is that, since it is sod installation, I only will be able to see the quality after a few months. Sod is know for looking great initially and sometimes not so great after the winter, drying on the edges of the patches, patches not attaching well to the soil, etc.."

"We had John and the crew do work on our driveway, including fixing the apron and putting down new stone on our approximately 100‑ft long driveway. The process was done right from start to finish—they laid down hard pack first, rolled it out, then added the stone and rolled that as well. A new asphalt apron was installed at the top, and it came out beautiful. In addition, a drain was installed in our other driveway to catch water running down from the road, which made a big difference. John and the crew were professional, on time, and extremely hard‑working. We plan to hire them again this spring to asphalt our other driveway. Highly recommend John and the crew for quality work and great results."

"Wally and crew were professional and beyond what I had expected. They saw a few things not included in the price and took care of them. I am very happy all the way around and would use them again. Even more refreshing is the communication and keeping me up to date on time and arrival. Excellent!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Instead of a set number of types, asphalt comes in variations designed for different needs. Some are categorized by temperature—hot mix, warm mix, and cold mix. Others are sorted by composition, like dense-graded, gap-graded (such as Stone Matrix Asphalt), porous, and mastic asphalt. There are also modified versions with added compounds like polymers, rubber, or emulsions. Instead of focusing on a number, it may be more useful to understand how contractors customize asphalt for durability, climate, and traffic conditions.

An ideal driveway gradient is between 2% and 5%. Anything lower than 1% or higher than 15% can cause problems for your car or property. A driveway with less than a 1% slope increases your likelihood of flooding and water damage, while a driveway with a 15% grade or higher can be too steep for safe traveling.

Yes, using recycled asphalt millings is an eco-friendly alternative compared to concrete. Millings are reclaimed pieces of gravel that are recycled into aggregate that can be used on driveways, patios, walkways, basketball courts, tennis courts, and more.

Common alternatives to a gravel driveway include concrete, asphalt, brick, stone pavers, and permeable pavers. Concrete and asphalt are generally the most affordable options. However, concrete can be prone to cracking in cold climates, while asphalt may soften in areas with high heat and direct sun exposure. For enhanced curb appeal, brick, stone, and permeable pavers are popular choices, though their installation can be more expensive due to intricate designs. Stone pavers offer a natural look and are sometimes installed with gravel around them. Both permeable pavers and brick driveways provide excellent drainage, which helps prevent flooding and reduce water runoff.

An asphalt driveway should be at least 3 inches thick over a compacted gravel base. Areas with poor drainage should have a thicker stone base. To install a new asphalt driveway over an existing driveway, the new asphalt should be at least 2 inches thick and the existing driveway should be in relatively good condition.
