"
I would highly recommend AC-CHOO for duct cleaning and mold remediation. They were number one on Angie's List and did not disappoint. Vernon Gau is very knowledgeable with many years of experience and did a thorough inspection on our 20 year old house. After getting 3 estimates we scheduled AH-CHOO for our duct cleaning and they promptly performed the work the following week. We had mold in our first floor garage and they hand scraped the mold and coated all exposed joists and walls with a microbial protective coating. Kevin, Kris and Marty did an outstanding job with minimal disruption to our household. We now have no mold odors in our house and no worries for 10 years as AH-CHOO guarantees their work."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The top reason to purchase an HVAC maintenance contract is the fact that it ensures you are detecting problems before they turn into expensive fixes. Secondly, this type of contract provides priority service, which is nice if it’s peak busy season. Finally, an HVAC maintenance contract provides discounts on parts and labor for repairs, which can save you a good amount of money if your unit breaks.

You may never need an AC recharge if there are no leaks. However, if your AC unit has a leak that cannot be patched appropriately, you’ll need an AC recharge every time the freon level drops low enough that it disrupts your system—this could be once every two to three years. It all depends on the size and frequency of the leak.

If you know how to identify supply and return ducts, you’ll find that only the supply ducts will have dampers. Although your return ducts can have dampers, it’s not common. If you have one return duct that is pulling in too much air, adding a damper to it can help with overall system performance. However, dampers on return ducts are not a necessary addition for most homes.

An HVAC system typically lasts between 10 and 30 years, with an average lifespan of 15 to 25 years. The longevity of the system is influenced by factors such as the quality of the unit, usage frequency, local climate, and how well it is maintained. Regular maintenance, including cleaning, filter replacements, and professional inspections, can help maximize its lifespan. Different components within the system have varying life expectancies. For example:

  • Furnaces: 15 to 30 years

  • Boilers: 20 to 35 years

  • Air Conditioners (AC units): 12 to 20 years

  • Heat Pumps: 10 to 20 years

  • Ductless Mini-Splits: 10 to 30 years

If there’s a freon leak in your home’s AC unit, it will cause the system to work overtime to cool the house. That issue will result in higher energy bills and it will take much longer for cool air to disperse throughout the home. If your system has a freon leak during the summer, it can make hot days miserable. That’s why it’s important to hire an HVAC professional to resolve a freon leak as quickly as possible.
