"Jose is the most respectful timely plumber I've ever worked with, no BS stories or tardiness, he's able to give me an honest quote and does the work fast. I've had horrible experiences with past plumbers and Jose is exactly the opposite. He does what he says he'll do when he says he'll do It. And he provides lots of value for his price. I appreicate his honesty and respectfulness."

"I’ve had 5 plumbers come to my house to try and fix a problem I was having with my water heater. Bruce is the only one who actually took the burner assembly apart, cleaned the burner which was covered with trash, and replaced the thermocoupler. After reassembling the burner unit, Bruce waited around for a few minutes to make sure everything was working properly. I am very impressed with his concern for customer satisfaction. Bruce is now my “go to” guy for all my plumbing needs."

"Mike & Trey are amazing plumbers and a true masters of the trade! They’ve helped me unclog all of my drain lines exiting from out the kitchen and the bathroom. Mike informed me everything that would need to be done due to it being an older home and provided me with a price I felt was worth paying. I do air conditioning work myself and had the privilege of meeting Mr. Mike Mincey and Trey Hadden throughout my journey at the company we had previously worked for at the time. I’ve watched both of them as a team pull off some pretty miraculous jobs that aren’t built out for the weak! I’ve also seen them pull off jobs by themselves and still made it work! It seems like every single time Mike and Trey always ended up with a satisfied homeowners! Honest work. Honest guys. It’s important to feel comfortable with who you have in your home and these two here have always exceeded my expectations. Would highly recommend Vortex Plumbing to anyone in need of quality work and A1 customer service!"

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The best practice is to clean the sewer drain lines in your home once a year or every two years. Older homes could require more frequent maintenance. Keeping up on cleaning your sewer lines can prevent severe clogs, help ensure your system is working properly, and prevent expensive repairs.

If used correctly and sparingly, root killer shouldn’t damage your pipes. Make sure to follow the instructions on the back of the bottle or the company’s website to avoid any unintended damages. However, when it comes to copper sulfate, it’s better to avoid it. This type of root killer can damage your plumbing and the surrounding environment.

It can take anywhere from one month to a couple of years for tree roots to grow back in sewer lines. Tree roots can cause extreme havoc on your sewer lines, potentially cracking them and causing untreated wastewater to make its way into the groundwater. Have a landscaping pro remove trees and roots before installing your system, or call a pro to do it retroactively as soon as you can.

Outdoor plumbing issues are no less serious or urgent to fix than interior plumbing problems. These problems may require excavation and lawn repair due to the plumbing often being buried underground. The most common outside plumbing problems include:

  • Clogged landscape drainage: $200–$1,000

  • Clogged sewer lines: $60–$250 per linear foot

  • Corroded or rusted pipes: $1,500–$15,000+

  • Leaking drain lines: $200–$1,000

  • Leaking water mains: $300–$4,000+

  • Septic system failure: $600–$3,000+

  • Tree roots in pipes: $200–$1,000

  • Well pump failure: $350–$1,500

The cost to unclog a drain varies based on the location and severity of the clog. For simple clogs within your home, such as in a sink, toilet, or shower, hiring a plumber typically costs between $110 and $350, with an average of around $200. Snaking a toilet or sink usually costs between $110 and $275, while a bathtub or shower clog costs about $225.

For a more serious clog in the main sewer line, the cost is higher. Clearing a main line clog generally costs between $200 and $600, with an average of about $380. However, prices can range from as low as $100 for snaking a minor clog to over $1,600, particularly if advanced methods like video inspection and hydrojetting are needed for a large or hard-to-reach blockage. Some severe main line clogs can cost upwards of $1,000 to clear depending on factors like the cause of the clog, its distance from an accessible cleanout, and whether the pipe is located beneath an occupied space (e.g., in an apartment building). You may be able to save money on minor clogs by using a drain snake or bladder yourself.
