"Darrel was great! He was very communicative, on time, and very professional. He installed a new shower arm, bath faucet, bath drain, and vanity sink faucet for us. It all came out clean and amazing. He quoted me upfront before beginning anything. I would highly recommend him to anyone!"

"I truly would like to thank JDC Plumbing for coming to my elderly mother's rescue. Her toilet over flowed and was clogged after hours on a week night. After I got in touch with JDC, they arrived at my mother's home in 20 mins! They did an awesome job unclogging the toilet quickly and were very courteous. They also gave us tips on how to keep things working in the best condition it can. I Highly recommend them for plumbing issues. This is one business card that I will be holding on to. Thanks JDC!"

"Anthony arrived promptly at the scheduled appointment time and immediately began to identify where the leak was coming from in the bathroom ceiling. Once he found the problem, he carefully explained what needed to be done to repair the issue and how much it would cost to repair the leak. The price was more than reasonable and he completed the job the same day. I will definitely call KAGS again and would recommend him. He even followed up with me that evening on a question I asked him earlier in the day."

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

If you're dealing with a clogged sink drain, you may be able to avoid removing the drain by using a plunger to dislodge the clog. While we associate plungers with toilets, they can do the same job with your sink drain. Be gentle, though, as forceful movements can push clogs further into your plumbing system and make them more difficult to remove. Additionally, make sure you’re using a sink plunger—with a flat bottom—and not a toilet plunger—which has a smaller bottom protruding from the larger flat piece.

There are several common signs that your main sewer line may be clogged. Key indicators include multiple fixtures in your home draining slowly, gurgling sounds coming from drains or toilets, and water backing up into showers, sinks, or toilets. You might also notice water backing up from the plumbing system's drain cleanout, water in your basement drain, or unexplained wet patches on your lawn. Foul odors, such as the smell of raw sewage or rotten eggs, are another common symptom. The most reliable way to confirm a main sewer line clog is to hire a professional plumber to perform a camera inspection.

No. You should never pour old paint down a drain or sewer because it can clog pipes and pollute the environment. You must dispose of paint properly and safely. Different types of paint need to be disposed of in different ways—oil-based paints must be taken to a paint recycling center, while you can throw dried-out water- or latex-based paints in the garbage.

If you have a sink stopper, it can feel more challenging to clean the drain without removing it, but here are a few simple steps:

  • Pour ½ cup baking soda into the drain using a funnel

  • Pour 1 ½ cups vinegar into the drain

  • Close the sink stopper for 15–20 minutes

  • Open the drain

  • Pour 2 cups of boiling water down the drain (be cautious as boiling water can damage some types of pipes)

If the drain isn’t unclogged, repeat the process.

Boiling water helps unclog a drain, but usually only with a harder abrasive such as baking soda or vinegar. On its own, it isn’t the most effective tool. In addition, you shouldn’t use boiling water if you have PVC pipes, as it can soften or melt them. Use a plunger or enlist the help of a pro if you have plastic pipes.
