"The guy was nice enough, but the work was scheduled for Friday, June 13 at 8 am; he did not show up until 9 am. He stopped working around 3 pm and said he would come back at 9 am on Saturday; he didn?t arrive until about noon. A storm came up at 2 pm, stopping his work. He waited for a while then said he would come back on Monday. He also left materials and tools on my lawn, which I had to move on Sunday so that I could cut the lawn. Finally, the completed job was done haphazardly; the tops of the pickets are not straight, unlike the original fence. See the attached photo?the section with new pickets (far left) is straight, but the one next to it with old pickets is not; the section on the middle right is not straight, and the section with the new and old pickets (far right) is straight. I had specifically asked him to straighten the tops, and he never did."

It’s both durable and flexible, making it a reliable choice for residential use. A properly compacted 2-3 inch layer on a well-prepared crushed stone base will hold up for years. In areas with harsh winters or scorching summers, a slightly modified mix can help prevent cracking and rutting. No matter the climate, quality installation is just as important as the material itself, so hiring an experienced contractor ensures a smooth, long-lasting driveway built to last.

To maintain their strength, asphalt driveways and parking lots need to be sealcoated once every two to five years. You may also need to reapply paint striping every few years as it fades to ensure drivers can safely navigate the parking lot.

An ideal driveway gradient is between 2% and 5%. Anything lower than 1% or higher than 15% can cause problems for your car or property. A driveway with less than a 1% slope increases your likelihood of flooding and water damage, while a driveway with a 15% grade or higher can be too steep for safe traveling.

Gravel is one of the few driveway materials that can handle rain the second it’s installed. Unlike asphalt, which needs days to set, or concrete, which requires weeks to cure, gravel is ready as soon as it’s compacted. This permit costs between $50 and $300 in most cases. Most municipalities will also require a certified and insured contractor do the work relating to the apron and curb cut. You can contact your building department or ask your paving company if you need a permit. Your driveway professional will usually pull the permit for you.
