"Based on what is going on in the world today, I thought young men like Brennen no longer existed. There is hope. Confident, personable, polite, respectful, considerate young man who is not trying - but doing - those things necessary to start and build a business based on his word, his character and his dependability. HIRE HIM! I will. Again and again."

"Gary & his crew were very professional & hard working. My husband & I were thoroughly pleased with all of the services he provided. He was willing to pick up the mulch for us, pull our weeds out of 3 flower beds, pulled the weeds from under our river rocks surrounding the gardens, & pulled up some flower bushes that were damaged from the winter. Nice clean up work & he even hauled off the debri! He’s worth every penny! Other lawn services required a minimum job of $1200 or more but we didn’t need that much work done. I highly recommend Gary’s services & would definitely hire him again in the future. Thanks for being awesome Gary!"

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

While you can use various materials like sand or even just soil, gravel is widely considered the best option to put under a deck. It provides excellent drainage and is resistant to water, fire, and pests. Gravel also helps anchor the soil to prevent erosion during heavy rain and acts as a built-in weed blocker, reducing regular upkeep. Furthermore, it is simple to spread, available in various textures and tones, and adds a polished look that complements any deck design.

In the majority of cases, you don’t need regulatory permission or permits to remove decking components and materials. However, the exception is if you live in or near a wildlife conservation area, which could require permits and consent prior to beginning the demolition. Check with a local regulatory agency for more information.

Yes, you can build a deck over your outdoor HVAC unit, but you need to leave at least 5 feet of vertical clearance above the unit. If you don’t want your deck to be that high off the ground, you could build a floating deck in another part of your yard—again, as long as you leave at least 4 feet of horizontal space between the deck and your AC unit.

Deck skirting shouldn’t touch the ground, especially if you have a wood deck, which is vulnerable to moisture. Ideally, you should leave at least 3/4 of an inch of space between the deck skirting and the ground for more ventilation. Pros also recommend that you incorporate about 1 square foot of space for ventilation for the underside of the deck to every 150 square feet of decking. Proper ventilation prevents mold growth and rot that can damage your deck.

No. In most cases, it’s not colder or freezing temperatures that affect decking materials but the amount of moisture that seeps into the materials as a result. For example, wood decking material is more likely to suffer from rot or decay when exposed to excess moisture from snow or ice. An extreme change in temperature can cause wood to expand or contract, but only if it’s not properly treated beforehand.
