"Called at 5pm on a Friday in hopes that Clearwater could help me out as my water wasn't running and the person I called at 10am was a no show. Casey showed up within an hour and had my water running again within the hour. He talked me through the whole process to help me prevent it from happening again. Hands down the best service I could've received! Highly recommended!"

"Did a great job on water softening/filter installation. Also added additional water shut off valve for the house. Brandon was very knowledgeable and provided exactly what I needed. Installation was completed on time and scheduled quickly despite my restrictive work schedule. Would highly recommend."

"I came home on a Saturday night to my well pump not working and no water in the house. I contacted Casey at Clear water and he responded promptly. He tried to first help me over the phone and then came over on a Sunday morning with no hesitation. He knew what was wrong from our phone conversation and showed up with the replacement part. I had water within a 1/2 hour of him showing up. He could have charged me much more than he did considering it was a Sunday morning and I was in a jam. I would recommend him and anytime I have a well/ pump issue I will only be calling him."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

The most accurate way to determine whether you have hard water is to purchase a water test kit from a hardware store or send a tap water sample to a lab. But there are some signs you can look out for without professional testing. For instance, if you're consistently dealing with mineral stains on your glassware, windows, and shower doors, you're likely to have hard water. Hard water can also make it harder to lather and rinse soap, so if you're struggling to work up a good lather in the shower, hard water might be the culprit.

If your water softener repair is fairly straightforward, like a simple filter replacement, then you can probably do it yourself with little risk. However, anything beyond a simple fix should be addressed by someone with extensive plumbing expertise to avoid costly water softener problems, like leaks.

That said, even simple problems can be complicated to diagnose, particularly if your water softener is attached to a whole-house treatment system. So, unless you feel absolutely certain that the problem is an easy fix that you can take on yourself, it's probably best to hire a plumber to diagnose and fix the problem.

To get utilities set up on a property, you first have to contact the local department of planning to determine whether your property is able to connect to public utilities. From there, you can work with a structural engineer and/or a building contractor to design the layout of utility lines on the property. The pros will need this information as they begin securing building permits before they can start adding lines.

If your property isn’t able to connect to public utilities, you’ll need to consider working with pros to develop a comfortable off-grid home that will meet your needs.

The primary difference between a water softener and a water filter lies in what they remove from the water. A water softener is designed to remove hard minerals like calcium and magnesium. In contrast, a water filter has a broader effect, removing various contaminants above a certain size, which can include bacteria and other impurities.

To decide which you need, consider your goal. If you want to eliminate hard minerals, choose a softener. If you want to remove a wide range of contaminants, a filter is the better option. Filters are also generally less expensive to install. Depending on your water supply, you may need to install both for comprehensive treatment.

If your ‘do isn’t doing what you want it to do despite using good hair care products, hard water might be to blame. Since hard water can’t rinse soap off as well as soft water can, your hair might grow limp because of the shampoo and conditioner residue that’s left behind. If you color your hair, you might see it fade more quickly or even turn a different shade as the dye reacts with the minerals in the water. You might also experience an itchy scalp, thanks to the dryness that comes from bathing in the hard water.
