"The men were on time, knew what was needed and cleaned up after. They were a great team. I spoke with the manager who helped me decide what would be best for my situation. I recommend them to everyone for insulation of their attics. Thank you Mr. Brock. It was a pleasure."

Small jobs welcome

"Great job. Very personal and knowledgable. Asked me to inspect the work to make sure I was satisfied. Cleaned up afterwards. Also purchased a neat attic door insulator that works well. Fair price and it will pay for itself in electricity savings."

"Very professional job. Quinton evaluated our attic status, made recommendations, and he and his workers quickly insulated accordingly in the heat!! He also left contact info and asked for contact in one month as a follow up to results of insulation in electric bill. He also suggested contacting him in the winter before using fireplace as an added precaution."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Cellulose insulation is usually made from recycled paper products, such as old newspapers, but cellulose might also contain recycled denim. While most homeowners traditionally buy cellulose insulation to use for installation, it is possible to make your own at home with old newspapers, cardboard, a paper shredder, and boric acid (important for fireproofing your cellulose insulation materials).

Mold can grow on garage ceiling insulation, which is why it’s important to install a vapor barrier behind the insulation and keep the space cooled and heated as you would your living area. Doing so will more or less eliminate the risk of mold growing on your garage ceiling insulation. You can also install a self-draining dehumidifier to help remove moisture, or opt for a foam board insulation or spray foam insulation that won’t harbor moisture and mold.

You should not put fiberglass insulation in basements, since fiberglass is known to trap mold and mold is more commonly grown and produced in basements. You should also avoid placing insulation near water heaters, oil burners, or other hot appliances. For more information about the best and worst places to install insulation, consider hiring an insulation professional.

Blown-in insulation works, but only for unfinished attics. Also, it isn’t the longest-lasting nor the most effective option. For better options, look into spray foam insulation or natural fiber batts. They typically have a longer lifespan, better heat resistance, and stronger sound-proof abilities. Spray foam insulation costs about $1.25 to $1.50 per square foot, but can go up to more than $4 per square foot. Fiber batt pricing varies depending on the material.

A dehumidifier can reduce condensation on your ductwork by lowering humidity levels in the air. Condensation occurs when humid, warm air makes contact with cold ducts. A dehumidifier can help maintain your home's indoor humidity below or around 50%, minimizing moisture buildup. However, if condensation is caused by leaks, cracks, or other damage, a dehumidifier won’t solve the problem.
