OUR COMPANY'S HISTORY On January 1, 1946, with $1,200 cash, a used van, a few valuable contacts, and a theme of service, J.C. Redd started the company Redd Pest Control located in Jackson, MS. Over time, Redd Pest Control grew into one of the largest pest companies in the industry covering eight states. In 1999, J.C.’s business was sold by his son Richard, with the exception of several franchised territories owned by family members in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama. As one of the oldest companies in our industry, Redd has had thousands; upon thousands of customers throughout the years say: “when is my Reddman coming…” or “Mom, the Reddman is here…” In the late 1950’s, the company adopted the theme “Call the Redd Man” based on the heritage started by customers. During this same period, Redd also established a new logo which included a Native American boy. Founder, J.C. Redd and his family members are direct descendants of the Cherokee and Choctaw Nations. The Redd family takes great pride in their Native American ancestry. Today, family-owned and operated, Redd Pest Solutions is a third generation company with fourth generation family members serving active roles. Thanks to our loyal and dedicated customers, the Redd Man is still a leader in pest management professionals along the Gulf Coast in Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana. Above all, dedicated employees always strive to protect food, health, and property for our customers through quality service.

Bird Control questions, answered by experts

Fake owls are a common goose deterrent decoy and one of the most humane ways to scare away geese. Unfortunately, some geese are wise to fake predators. Decoys can be more effective if you move them around frequently or purchase ones with motion features. Decoys that move in the wind are also more effective than stationary decoys.

The nesting period can last up to 10 weeks, and some species will continue to nest four to five times per year. A bird’s nest could continue to stay in use for several months or up until a bird finishes nesting for the year. It’s best to consult a wildlife professional to determine the longevity of a specific bird’s nest.

When it comes to keeping birds from doing their business on your porch rails, you have several DIY options and home remedies you can try:

  • Tie a fishing line from one end of the deck post to the other. Birds won’t be able to see the line across the railing, so they can’t land on it.

  • Hang wind chimes close by, which may scare birds away.

  • Apply a bird gel repellent to the railings, which contains smells that birds generally don’t like. Or, similarly, you can apply citronella or lemon oil around the railings, since birds don’t like strong smells.

Small amounts of geese are actually good for the environment. They help spread seeds and lead to more plant growth, but they’re often an invasive species, particularly Canadian geese. This means a small gaggle can quickly grow into a level that litters your lawn with bald patches and excrement.

Hawks might seem like fearless predators, but these smart birds do know what other animals to be cautious around. Hawks are naturally wary of humans and predators that see them or their eggs as a potential meal or threat. This list includes owls, crows, eagles, and even snakes or raccoons.
