"Everything went well.. in fact they saved us a fair bit of time and trouble. We have 2 locations and were moving from one of them to another warehouse. We had the Flying Locksmith visit to change multiple locks . We were telling them that we would also need about 30 additional keys so our employees form the other location would have access. The technician asked if we would like for him to key the new locks so that 2 different keys could work on the same lock... and that was a perfect solution.. who knew a lock could be keyed for 2 different keys.. not me anyway.. so they saved us a fair bit of time and trouble."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Aside from the labor costs, several other factors can impact the cost of hiring a locksmith. If you can avoid services during off-hours, you can save on fees often charged for urgent requests. Consider additional factors such as:

  • Type of services required

  • Emergency call fees

  • Home and lock location

  • Number of locks to repair or install

  • Peak hours

  • Type of locks

When you take a key to a hardware store or a locksmith for copying, you can expect the key-cutting process to take as little as 30 seconds. The key copier will review your current key to decide on the correct blank. Then, your original key and the blank are inserted into a key duplication machine to cut an exact key copy. When it’s all said and done, you can have a new key in your hand in just a couple of minutes.

Yes, it’s possible a burglar can get through a deadbolt. Some types of deadbolts are harder for an intruder to get through, though. For example, a single-cylinder lock only requires breaking a window nearby and simply turning it. While other locks, such as a double-cylinder lock, may offer greater protection and make it harder for an intruder, no deadbolt is 100 percent effective.

You should replace door locks when you move into a new home since you don’t know who has copies of the key. Other reasons to change your locks include an attempted break-in, when someone moves out of your home, or if you lose a key with an address attached to it.

Yes, keyless locks can be quite safe, but their security depends on the type and quality of the lock you choose. Many keyless locks offer added features like biometric access, PIN codes, and smartphone connectivity, making them potentially more secure than traditional locks. However, keyless locks can also be susceptible to hacking, battery failure, or technical malfunctions, so it's important to choose a reliable brand and stay on top of software updates and maintenance.
