Small jobs welcome

"Communication not difficult. Answered whatever questions I had by phone or e-mail and even text. I did call each day to see when he would show up for work and was able to reach him each time. Very happy with work done. Was given good follow up instruction on care of new grass seed and flowerbed plants. Very helpful in picking out plants for the flowerbed. Texted me examples of perennials and knowledgeable on maintenance and heartiness. Helped keep cost down by using leftover soil from putting in new flowerbed and trenches to extend gutter flow away from house to fill sunken areas around house and deck foundation. I'm very pleased with work done."

"They built a deck on ground with footers for a flip of mine and did a great job. Their price was extremely reasonable. Only issue was one of their laborers tended to be late and work ran a day over."

"Dylan, John and Aiden were friendly, but professional. The quote for the project was very reasonable and they finished in a timely manner. They always let me know in advance when they would arrive. Even though it was a smaller project (new steps and railings from my screened in back deck to the yard), they treated it with the same care as a larger construction. They made appropriate suggestions and answered any questions I had. I would use Goch Construction again and will recommend them to friends and neighbors."

"We have used Cody for several home projects over the last five years and have never been disappointed. So when it came time to get a new roof Cody was our first and only choice. Cody has a great work ethic which is hard to find these days. He is professional, friendly, prompt and gets the job done in a timely manner and a reasonable price. His workmanship is always top notch! We have had several of the neighbors comment on how nice our roof looks, what a great job was done on it and how Promptly it was done. I wouldn t hesitate to recommend Marin s Construction, in fact 2 of my neighbors have already asked for his number."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can attach a deck to a mobile home, but it’s important that the work be done correctly to avoid the potential for major damage to your home. Many building codes require that any additions to mobile homes—including decks—be either freestanding or have their own support structures. Getting permits may require submitting the home's original floor plan, the proposed floor plan, framing details, and more.

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.

Deck skirting shouldn’t touch the ground, especially if you have a wood deck, which is vulnerable to moisture. Ideally, you should leave at least 3/4 of an inch of space between the deck skirting and the ground for more ventilation. Pros also recommend that you incorporate about 1 square foot of space for ventilation for the underside of the deck to every 150 square feet of decking. Proper ventilation prevents mold growth and rot that can damage your deck.

Pressure-treated lumber is one of the most affordable types of decking upfront. This material is widely available, so you can usually find pressure-treated lumber at almost any local home improvement store you visit. Keep in mind that wood requires a lot of upkeep with repainting and restaining, so any kind of wood may be more expensive in the long run than something like PVC decking.

Space deck handrail posts four to six feet apart. If the posts are more than six feet apart, the railing will be less able to withstand lateral forces and is more susceptible to breaking. Additionally, railing posts that are more than six feet apart may not be up to code, and you may face fines and be required to reinstall the posts to bring them up to code.
