Very satisfied with the new product!!! Chris and his team were super courteous and respectful. Good to work with. Prompt responses to concerns or requested revisions. Would certainly hire this team again - have already recommended them to friends!"

"I hired building better homes management to remove old cabinets and install new cabinets in my kitchen. I had the pleasure of speaking to Derrick who was knowledgeable and polite. "I was very impressed with Sentri Homes - their customer service was excellent. They sent a subcontractor to install some vinyl laminate in my bathroom and he ended up getting glue all over the carpet in our bedroom. The sub ended up ghosting both me and Sentri, leaving me stuck with a ruined carpet. Sentri stuck with me for over a month to get the carpet replaced with the identical original and to get the vinyl job 100% completed. The carpet was a Home Depot exclusive and Sentri handled everything with them. I will be using Sentri for a much bigger renovation I have coming up soon, because I know that they will make sure everything gets done right no matter what problems come up. The vinyl looks great too."

"Great Friendly Service. Estimated to take a week or two to complete. Took a month to paint the exterior trim on my house. Mostly weather related. Be prepared if you are doing an exterior project for mother nature to get in the way! Only downfall to this project is that it took longer than expected, there are areas that were not finished i had to get them back out for. There are still some spots that are not covered. The project went over estimate. The deck sealing did not seem to do anything. I thought water would bubble up on the wood boards and they are still absorbing moisture. Waste of the extra money and I will just do it myself"

"In late June we found out we needed to replace our deck due to structural issues. We were having a huge party on 7/7 so it had to be done. We met with the representative from Appelman and found him to be knowledgeable and helpful. We gave him our totally unrealistic time limit. He didn't promise to meet it and we appreciated his honesty. The bid presented was for labor only and we had to purchase the supplies on our own. Never having built anything we did have to struggle as we had no idea what or how many components we would need. Everything had to be special ordered as we were building a Trex deck. This also cost us time waiting for deliveries. The builders were amazing. They worked through storms and oppressive heat to try to complete the job for us. One of the workers actually suffered from heat exhaustion one day. The main builder was Steve Beck. I can't say enough about him. He not only worked through the heat and the thunderstorms, he stayed until 9PM a couple times and even gave up his Fourth of July to get the deck to a usable condition. He is old school and believes if a job is worth doing it should be done right. If you can get him to work on your project you are sure to be totally satisfied. The deck was completed yesterday, 8/18 but it was absolutely usable for the party. Steve Beck did a fantastic job. The only negative of our experience was this.....it is clearly stated on the bid that the final payment is not due until the job is completed to the customer's satisfaction. Several weeks before completion I was persuaded to submit the final check. I know, my fault. I gave the check based on the PROMISE that it would not be cashed until completion of the job. I even mentioned that if for some reason the check was going to be cashed early I needed to know so I could transfer funds into my checking account to cover it. I guess you see where this is going. The check was cashed without my knowledge. Fortunately I have a friend who works at my bank and I was advised that I was overdrawn by a couple thousand dollars. If not for her all of my payments for the month, insurance, utilities, credit cards, etc. would have bounced. I would recommend Appelman in the future because the work was top notch but I would recommend holding that final payment until the job is done."

Custom Home Builders questions, answered by experts

The average cost to renovate or remodel a home is $52,300, with most projects ranging from $19,500 to over $88,400. However, costs can vary significantly, from as low as $3,000 for a small project to $170,000 or more for a complete home remodel.

Several factors influence the total price, including:

  • Project Scope and Size: The extent of the renovations, whether it's a single room or the entire house.

  • Location: Geographic location affects labor and material costs.

  • Materials: The quality of materials chosen.

  • Room Type: Kitchen remodels ($14,500 - $70,000+) are generally more expensive than bedroom remodels ($1,500 - $5,500).

  • Other Factors: The time of year, complexity of the work, and any additions or expansions.

On a per-square-foot basis, you can expect to pay between $15 and $60 for standard projects and up to $150 for luxury renovations.

Examples of specific project costs include:

  • Basement remodel: ~$20,200

  • Garage remodel: ~$27,900

  • Loft conversion: ~$20,200

  • Disability accommodation remodel: ~$4,300

  • Major home repairs: ~$11,700

If you are financing the project, note that some loan programs, like the FHA 203(k), may require a minimum project cost (e.g., $5,000) and will necessitate a home appraisal and professional cost estimates. Using a home renovation cost estimator can also help you budget for your project.

The early stages of building a house are harder than the later stages; laying the foundation and framing the house are two of the most challenging steps. However, it varies for everyone. Some people have difficulty installing HVAC, plumbing, and electricity, while others find it harder to plan the house and secure the necessary permits.

A green home is one that focuses on conservation, with the goal often being net-zero carbon emissions and self-sustainability. It will often include some kind of self-generation equipment, like solar panels or a small wind turbine, high-efficiency electrical components and mechanicals, and high-quality insulation and air sealing to reduce the loss of conditioned air. Many green homes also include xeriscaping or rainwater collection to cut down on drainage and water consumption.

If you want to make your home eco-friendly, enjoy low maintenance, and love the fact that its looks will take people’s breath away (and not because they were trying to blow your house down), then a modern brick home is right for you. You can hire a mason to get the building process started for your brick home.

But if you’re not fond of the color and don’t want to deal with the process of repointing or other repairs, consider going with vinyl or wood. These materials offer a lower cost. While they tend to require more maintenance, they don’t cost nearly the same as exterior brick house repair.

It’s typically more cost-effective to move a building along with its accessories than to demolish and rebuild it from scratch. However, that’s only if you can move the accessories without damaging them. However, if you plan to demolish the accessories anyway, it is advisable to do so before the move to save costs.
