"Scapes was contracted to refurbish an existing 12x14 (168 ft2) paver patio and stain a pergola. The patio has two sitting walls, one of which was leaning or tilted and needed to be rebuilt. The project reused the existing paver blocks, although a couple of new blocks were added. The quality of the patio work was very good, and I would give them 4 stars for the work. Scapes also stained the pergola which is part of the patio. The quality of the stain application was sub par, and for this effort I can only give them 2 stars. The stain all the way around was uneven, spots were missed, and some spots did not cover the bare wood very well. Scapes also scored very low in the ares of professionalism, responsiveness, and communication. In these areas I can only give them one star. a) Scapes used a different stain than what I had requested and never notified me of the change. Fortunately, the color was very close to what I had requested. (lack of communication and professionalism) b) The pergola is high enough to require a ladder to reach the higher sections for staining. They wanted to borrow a ladder from me. I don't have any ladders, so they went to Lowes to get one (lack of professionalism - when you come to do a job, you need to bring all the right tools). c) Brandon and I inspected the work after completion. We found several areas of the pergola that were not stained. Brandon said he would return another day to do the touch up stain work. After two scheduled times to do the work and two no shows, the work is still not complete. There was never a call or text informing me that he couldn't keep either appointment. (lack of responsiveness, communication, and professionalism) Recommendation: I do not recommend this contractor for the reasons stated above. Yes, they did a very good job refurbishing the patio, but did a lack luster job staining the pergola. And in a sense, never completed the work. Regarding price, I think their cost for the work and effort involved was very reasonable. For price I would give them 5 stars."

"During the estimate, we were advised the work would not be a problem but it ultimately proved to be an issue for Richard. They were quick & efficient at busting up old blacktop to construct new patio. However, he decided to have concrete delivered on one of the hottest days of the summer which caused the concrete to set too quickly. We're left with a bigger mess than what we started with. Not only is our new patio a complete waste, but we've had to pressure wash our house to try and remove the concrete that was slopped all over the siding (some of which was just replaced). Richard's team left our backyard in shambles...covered in tools, garbage, and two large piles of wasted concrete that rendered my driveway useless for over a month. We were told he would stop by to at least clean up his mess, but he only stopped by to pick up his tools. My husband/cousin had to bust up the concrete piles with sledgehammers. Richard was apologetic at first and seemed eager to make it right. However, two months later and he's made no attempt to correct his poor work. We have to get someone else to come in and bust up his bad pour and start from scratch. Lots of energy, time, and money wasted. We do not recommend at all."

Stone and Gravel questions, answered by experts

Yes, limewash on brick can accumulate dust over time. Its porous nature can attract dust particles, especially in environments with high levels of dust or dirt. Additionally, if the limewash surface is left unsealed, it may be more prone to collecting dust. Additionally, incorrectly applied limewash will generate dust. Causes include applying it too thickly instead of thin layers and not allowing enough drying time between layers. Regular maintenance, such as gentle cleaning or dusting, can help mitigate dusty issues.

Depending on the amount of soot present, you can vacuum some of it using a brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. Then, remove the leftovers with a mild cleaner, such as dish soap or vinegar mixed with water. Before applying a cleaning solution, saturate the bricks with clean water to prevent the cleaner from penetrating beyond the surface and causing structural damage to the bricks.

Yes, technically, you can pressure wash the paint off of brick. However, you run a much greater risk of damaging the brick and causing serious problems. If you go this route, you’ll still need to carefully choose and apply a chemical paint stripper before washing, following all instructions on the product packaging. Set your power washer to a low pressure to avoid damage.

Masonry is an umbrella term that involves adhering individual building materials together using an adhesive, so many different things are considered masonry. These include constructing stone or brick walls or facades, installing stucco siding, installing backsplashes or tile floors, and even installing glass block windows, in some cases. Masonry materials include natural stone, clay bricks, concrete bricks, glass blocks, and tiles.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) recommends placing a mailbox 6 inches to 8 inches back from the curb. If your lot is unusual, speak with town authorities or the local post office to determine the correct placement.
