"Before my wife and I chose Michael (Post Construction), four other local and reputable contractors bid for a complete basement finish. Everything from framing, electrical, plumbing, painting, tiling, and flooring. Each contractor had to be insured and licensed to build in the county we live in as well as handle all proper permits. Although Michael’s bid was reasonable in comparison, what impressed us the most during the walkthrough interview was that he had the right set of knowledge and skillset that gave us a sense of comfort and trust. Before hiring Michael, we also confirmed references from other contractors who highly recommended his work. Each stage of construction was scheduled and managed well especially when issues needed to be addressed. For instance, when the tile supplier originally supplied the wrong colored tile for the bathroom, Michael’s team quickly resolved the issue with the supplier to order and deliver the correct tile and rescheduled the tile work all of which was completed in less than a week. His 27 years of professional experience was demonstrated well especially in some of the smallest details. For example, knowing to apply an extra measure of caulking behind the trim and crown molding to prevent rope lighting from penetrating through the seams. He provided plenty of helpful suggestions to improve aesthetics such as covering the electrical panel with a custom-made door to match the trim. We are certainly very pleased with the results and the decision to go with Post Construction. We have additional long-term remodeling ideas in the future that we will definitely consider re-hiring Post Construction to perform the work."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts
The primary parts of a house that need framing during construction are floors, exterior walls, interior walls, and the roof. The framing in these areas provides the skeleton for adding other materials over the top. With walls, for example, contractors can hang drywall over the interior walls and siding over the outside of the exterior walls. Proper framing ensures a sturdy house that is built to last.
Yes, professionals can install new frames, trim, and threshold adjustments for a complete finish.
When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.
Removing a load-bearing wall is best handled by professionals. However, if you have the skill set and decide to DIY the project, you will still need at least one additional person to assist you. Aside from helping with demolition, you'll need another hand to install the new support beam.
Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.
