"Repair Clinic sent me a water intake valve that had some scuff marks and an unnecessary fixture (which I thought nothing of, assuming it had been removed from a new dishwasher). When the part did not fix my dishwasher's issue, I ordered a circulation pump, which also failed to fix the issue, so I decided to return both parts. Repair Clinic blamed me for the scuff marks and extra fixture, which is unacceptable. They referenced their return policy which states that parts which have been installed cannot be returned, and denied me any form of refund. For all I know, the water intake valve was defective, and I have no recourse. Don't put any stock in the "No-Hassle 365-Day Returns" they proudly tout on their homepage. Instead, expect finger-pointing and uncaring dismissal. You are better off with one of their many competitors."

It’s not the number of weep holes that should be of concern to builders but rather their spacing. Weep holes are usually spaced anywhere between 16 inches on center when using round tubes or wicking materials and 24 inches on center when using open-head joints. This is a more conservative spacing than the 33-inch maximum spacing on center that’s mentioned in the International Residential Code. All in all, the total number of weep holes a brick exterior should have will depend on the size of the structure.

The best place to install a drainage channel is at the end of a slope where the most amount of surface water collects on your property. Then, you will want to redirect that water through pipes until it is safely away from the perimeter of your home. Keep in mind, some homeowners will install channel drains as an alternative gutter system. You'll want to install these drains wherever water cascades off your roof to protect the ground from erosion.

French drains and footing drains are virtually identical, except that French drains sit a foot or two beneath the ground, and footing drains sit as deep as your foundation footings go, sometimes up to 10 feet. Both drainage systems collect water before it reaches the soil around your foundation and divert it to a safe place on your property for disposal.

If you’ll be digging up your floor to get access to your pipes when putting in a sewer backflow preventer, this would also be a good time to take care of any other plumbing issues or renovations. For example, you could install additional pipes for a basement bathroom. Since the floor will be sealed over with concrete when you’re done, now’s a good time to take care of those bigger tasks.

While it’s possible to install a French drain yourself, you should opt for hiring a professional if you need a large complex drain system installed. French drain installers have the necessary expertise and tools required to install the drain correctly, so you won’t have to deal with the consequences if you install it incorrectly.
