"The job was a bit expensive, but it's not a small house, though a neighbor is getting their house done by someone else for $1000 less. The house and trim look good, until you get really close. House color on trim edges that should be a different color. All over spray wasn't cleaned up well, no masking was done. Lots of paint on the driveway, in the grass and on the upper deck. Areas in the yard where brushes and equipment were cleaned, or where paint was spilled are now dead, I will have to reseed those areas when it gets cooler. For the most part we are satisfied, but attention to detail was lacking."

The average installation timeline for putting in an inground pool is between two and three weeks once the permits are approved, but that process can take an additional week or two. There are some things that can extend your timeline by days or even weeks, including ground preparation and excavation—especially if you have problematic soil—moving underground utility or sprinkler lines out of the way, installing the actual pool, and backfilling around the area. Additionally, many pool companies may have a waitlist due to high demand, meaning you could wait for months for the installation to be complete.

The type of sand you need for your sand filter depends on the manufacturer’s instructions, but you’ll need to use sand specifically for pool filters. Silica sand is a wallet-friendly, common choice that’s relatively easy to replace. You’ll choose between various grades of sand and different-sized sand grains.

Your swimming pool water can become cloudy if there’s too much chlorine. If your pH levels are out of balance, you can start to notice cloudiness. In other words, too much of any one chemical in your pool water can cause it. This is one reason it’s so important to stay on top of keeping your pool clean and getting pool maintenance done.

Building an in-ground pool can take anywhere from two to three months, and weather can absolutely throw a wrench in your timeline. Generally, you can expect to spend two to six weeks obtaining permits, a week excavating and preparing the land, and about a month or two building the actual pool (including the plumbing and electrical work). Keep in mind that concrete takes around 30 days to cure, but it won’t take nearly as long to install a fiberglass insert or vinyl liner.

You can avoid pool collapse—known as pool pop in an inground pool—if you follow the instructions on how to drain your pool safely. Wait for a temperate, dry day and slowly remove the water with a sump pump, hose, or the attached drains and hydrostatic plugs.
