"Anthony and the entire team at KCBR did a great job in remodeling our bathroom. We met with Amy the designer who helped us select tile, shower door, fixtures, lighting and mirrors. She was very helpful in giving us suggestions. Travis and Cole were the project managers for our remodel. They did a great job of keeping us informed of all that would be happening with our remodeling job. They were always available when I had questions or concerns. The crew was very neat and clean. The crew was on time and were here when they said they would be here. The painters did an excellent job. KCBR even hired a cleaning lady once the remodel was complete. Great customer service with everyone I came in contact with at KCBR. Anthony came over on a Saturday morning to address some questions I had about my tile. I would highly recommend KCBR. They were great company to work with. Karen G"

Interior Design and Decorating FAQs, answered by experts

Some architects include interior design in their portfolio of offerings, while some architectural firms employ interior designers to handle that aspect of home building projects or refer clients to interior designers they’ve worked with in the past. Ask a local architect whether they offer interior design services as well.

Current trends in custom furniture design are heavily influenced by a desire for sustainability and functionality, often incorporating reclaimed or eco-friendly materials. There is also a focus on multifunctionality, allowing pieces to adapt to various needs and spaces.

Most interior designers have at least a four-year degree, if not an advanced degree in interior design. Additionally, many states require interior designers to be licensed. If your state does not require licensing, interior designers can take a licensing exam with the National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ). Overall, licensing requirements vary from state to state, but most licenses require certain education levels and experience to qualify. To check the qualifications of your interior designer, use Angi’s state licensing tool.

It depends on the scope of the project and your confidence in your own design capabilities. If you’re simply replacing a few appliances or want to change the cabinetry, you most likely do not need a designer. If you’re doing a full reno, you should bring in a pro unless you have a very strong design sense and want to spend hours laboring over the various technical details.

While the terms 'interior designer' and 'interior decorator' are often used interchangeably, they represent distinct professions with some overlapping work. The primary difference lies in the scope of their projects.

An interior decorator focuses on the aesthetics of a space, making less permanent decisions about decor. Their work involves selecting colors, fabrics, furniture, wall art, paint, and other finishes to 'dress' a room and enhance its style.

An interior designer has a broader scope that includes a decorator's aesthetic focus but also extends to the structural and functional aspects of a space. Designers are qualified to plan layouts, make structural changes, and manage overall functionality. They handle permanent decisions regarding fixtures like cabinets and bathtubs, establish floor plans, and may hire contractors.

Due to the technical skills required, interior designers typically have formal education, certification, and may hold a license, which can result in higher fees. As a general rule, it is best to hire an interior designer for major remodeling projects and an interior decorator for projects focused on establishing or refreshing a home's interior style.
