Hello, my name is Nick Magee. I have worked in construction for over 15 years and have a technical degree in masonry. As a kid I was my father’s handyman for his properties, I am a jack of all trades.

"Zack was the attending specialist. He was punctual and worked for over two hours in the middle of the afternoon in a hot secluded spot to repair the issue. Zack speaks TO people and not AT people and is very professional and talented. He was fast, fair, and friendly!"

Cedar Ridge siding exclusive dealer. All types of energy efficient windows and doors. Additional contact name Steve Hund. Additional email [email protected]

"All seasons workmanship is horrible. Probably could of hired someone off Craigslist with no experience to do the work and got better results. Tried to get them to do it right, even went to the president of the company but they weren’t having it. Guess the customer isn’t right even if the contract says they’re right. No integrity, no morals, all around con men! From the worker to the head of the company."

Fireplace Cleaners questions, answered by experts

You should use an angled brush to first paint the mortar lines, then go in with a high-density roller to evenly paint the bricks one at a time. You can also use a flat paintbrush to paint individual bricks, but a roller is faster and easier to use thanks to its longer handle and wider surface area for coating the bricks. To finish, go in with the paint brush for edges or hard-to-reach areas.

Costs depend on material type, labor, chimney requirements, and structural reinforcements.

If you want to avoid damaging your home's brick, you should always use a stain specifically formulated for masonry projects. These stains are designed to penetrate the porous surface of the brick and bond with it, unlike paints, which sit on the surface and are prone to peeling and flaking. Look for stains labeled for use on brick or other masonry surfaces. Avoid using regular paint on brick, as it will not adhere well and will likely lead to future maintenance issues.

Yes, it’s a good idea to use paint primer on your brick fireplace before painting it. Brick is highly absorbent, so your first few coats of paint will likely seep into the surface of your fireplace, allowing the natural color of the brick to seep through. To avoid this, you’ll want to use one or two coats of primer, followed by the topcoat.

A hearth often looks like a tile or brick floor that juts out from and surrounds your fireplace. A hearth can be made of stone, brick, ceramic, or any other fireproof material. Brick offers a classic and traditional vibe, whereas a hearth made of marble or ceramic may lean more toward modern aesthetics. The most common depth of a hearth is 20 inches.
