"After purchasing an Angie's List Deal, I received the measuring kit in the mail promptly. The template and instructions provided to draw my split table top and each of the leaves were easy to use and understand. I mailed the completed materials and received the table pads very quickly. The table splits in the middle to allow insertion of up to 3 additional leaves. The table also has 2 drop leaves. That's 7 pads. All fit perfectly. I have used them on the table for family parties (not every day) and they're durable and built to last. I keep them in the box they arrived in to protect them when not in use. These are a worthwhile investment."

"Jake does an excellent job and his pricing is outstanding. We have had his company for several projects and each and every one is done above and beyond. They are the nicest people and very ethical and honest. We will continue to use Jake and his crew whenever we have any project to complete. Jake designed the finishing of our skylight and we love it"

Install Stair Railings questions, answered by experts

To child- or pet-proof your deck railing, look for railing systems with narrow spacing—under 4 inches—between balusters or panels. For added safety, consider installing a clear acrylic or mesh guard along the inside of the railing to prevent small limbs or paws from slipping through. Avoid horizontal rails that adventurous kids can climb like ladders. You can also add self-closing gates at stair openings to limit access.

Always begin by researching your local building codes and, when in doubt, speak with a local staircase company for confirmation. If you're estimating your handrail measurements, find the length of the nosing line of your steps—the horizontal line that touches the top of the tread of your steps. Measure between 34 and 38 inches up the walls for placement. The length of the handrail will then run the length of your nosing line or beyond, depending on local codes.

Extensive rot, structural damage, or aesthetic issues require dual wood replacement, whereas minor, localized issues might only need repair.

Yes, carpeted stairs are generally considered safer than stairs with hard surfaces like wood, vinyl, or tile. Carpet provides more traction and friction, which helps reduce the chances of slips and falls. Additionally, if a fall does occur, carpet offers more cushioning, which can lessen the severity of an injury. While hard surfaces can look great, they are often more slippery. However, it's worth noting that some carpets, especially if they are new, dirty, or have a slick texture, can also pose a slipping hazard. To improve safety on any type of stair surface, you can add traction treads to increase grip.

Whether or not any project is DIY-able depends on your personal level of handiness and willingness to extend time and effort. But in short, yes, you can install deck railing yourself if you have some basic skills. Certain types of deck railing, like cable or rope, are easier to install than wood or composite railing or more complicated types like sunburst railing.
