"After purchasing an Angie's List Deal, I received the measuring kit in the mail promptly. The template and instructions provided to draw my split table top and each of the leaves were easy to use and understand. I mailed the completed materials and received the table pads very quickly. The table splits in the middle to allow insertion of up to 3 additional leaves. The table also has 2 drop leaves. That's 7 pads. All fit perfectly. I have used them on the table for family parties (not every day) and they're durable and built to last. I keep them in the box they arrived in to protect them when not in use. These are a worthwhile investment."

Install Stair Railings questions, answered by experts

Because a railing for concrete stairs is a safety feature, some locations require a permit to do the work, even for a residential setting. Check with your local building inspector to see if you need a permit. In most locations, the residential railing height code requires the handrail to be 34 to 38 inches off the ground. If you buy a concrete stair railing kit, the manufacturer almost certainly will ensure it fits this height requirement.

Wood and metal are popular railing options for concrete structures. Although wood is less expensive, metal will offer more durability in the long run. Wood is more susceptible to the elements, like rain and wind, so it can wear down over time.

As for metal, iron and stainless steel are the strongest and longest-lasting options, which is why they tend to be more popular than aluminum railings. Although if you’re looking to tighten your budget, aluminum is still a good choice. Vinyl is another railing option that stands up well against moisture, but it isn’t as attractive as wood or metal railings. Composite railing offers the look of wood without requiring as much maintenance.

Regular sealing or staining, non-slip treads, and correcting water pooling help avoid damage. Households prone to extreme weather should prioritize these measures.

The standard dimensions for a stair's rise (vertical height) and run (tread depth) depend on whether it is in a residential or commercial building. For residential buildings, the International Residential Code (IRC) and International Building Code (IBC) specify a maximum riser height of 7 3/4 inches (with a minimum of 4 inches) and a minimum tread depth of 10 inches. Additionally, the maximum total rise of a staircase should not exceed 12 feet between landings. For fixed stairs in commercial buildings, OSHA requires a rise between 6 and 7.5 inches and a run between 10 and 14 inches. Standards for other types, such as spiral staircases, will differ.

Space deck handrail posts four to six feet apart. If the posts are more than six feet apart, the railing will be less able to withstand lateral forces and is more susceptible to breaking. Additionally, railing posts that are more than six feet apart may not be up to code, and you may face fines and be required to reinstall the posts to bring them up to code.
