"I reached out to TW Drywall to finish a closet/ pantry, which was a small job but that didn’t matter to Tony. TW Drywall did an excellent job. They were prompt, professional and cleaned up any mess that comes with this type of work. TW Drywall is the real deal and recommend them for your next drywall project. Thank you Tony and Dee!"

Small jobs welcome

"My back kitchen wall had severe water damage that ruin most of the drywall and rotted window sill inside and out. We had two really old windows and decided to go to one. We had them to replace the drywall, outside wood which included reframing the window and covering the previous window. The also painted to match the colors inside and out. Also had the to replace a piece of the floor by the back door because it had became soft and while doing that check the joists and other floor in that area. Mike Cash came out for the estimate and was courteous and informative. He did all that he could to keep the project as low as possible. The crew took 3 1/2 days to complete the project. Steven and Jon worked hard and efficient. They explain the steps and answered my questions. We have a dog and they made sure the gate stayed close while they were there. They were very knowledgeable. They were pleasant and friendly. The cost for the project was a very fair price. Definitely will hire them again."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Only use spackle on plaster walls when the imperfection is small. It’s best used for nail holes or small dings in the plaster. Spackle dries quickly, allowing you to continue the repair process shortly after using it. Plaster can be tricky to repair, though, so if you run into issues, call a pro so that you don’t risk further damage.

It’s less costly to drywall a fireplace than shiplapping it since material costs are higher for shiplap. However, if you’re DIYing the project, shiplap is less expensive since you won’t have to pay for labor. With drywall, getting a smooth finish is difficult unless you’re a pro. Shiplap is ideal for an accent wall or unique space, such as around a fireplace, since it adds texture and gives off a cozy vibe.

It’s not a good idea to plaster over broken plaster (unless by broken you’re referring to cracked, in which case that’s perfectly fine). However, broken plaster can be a sign of a larger underlying issue like foundation damage or severe damage to the lath holding up the plaster, so it’s worth investigating before you simply plaster on top of the damage.

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

On average, drywall installation costs around $2,000, with a typical range of $400 to $6,000, including materials and labor. The final price depends on several factors. The most significant is the size of the area, as many contractors charge per square foot. Other cost factors include the complexity of the job (e.g., cutting around multiple windows and doors, corners, or curved walls), accessibility, location, the thickness of the drywall, the height of the room, and the desired level of finish. The level of finish can range from simply hanging the drywall to taping and mudding the seams and painting the walls.
