"Ralph was great to work with! We needed a stucco/EFIS repair done on our home. He came out and gave us a free quote. He gave us multiple options about what we could do and pointed out a couple of spots we had not noticed, which was really helpful. He was very knowledgeable and informative. When we agreed to move forward, he let us know when our project would be on the calendar. The date moved a little due to weather, but it was totally understandable and he communicated with us about it. Edin ran the project on-site. He communicated with me the night before that he would be there and then the next morning when he was on his way. We discussed the work and walked around the house prior to starting so that we could make sure we were on the same page. He had two other guys working with him. They were awesome! They showed up daily by 9a.m., they let me know when they were taking lunch so I could let my dogs out. He made sure that when they left for lunch and or at the end of the day always closed our gate, which was is so important when you have dogs. Their work was incredible. The stucco looks fantastic. The color match was great. When the project was near completion, Edin walked around with me to make sure that I was satisfied with the work. When it was over, they cleaned up and even put my patio furniture back in place. I could not be happier with the work that they did. I really appreciated the clean up as I recently had an experience with another contractor that did a good job, but did not clean up. If you're installing stucco in a climate with extreme weather, synthetic stucco may be the only viable option, as it lasts longer, is less prone to cracking, and resists moisture better. Traditional stucco is a suitable option in hot climates where moisture and rainfall are less common, so it’s a good option for affordability both up front and over time in these areas.
Due to application and cure times between coats, stuccoing a house takes between 10 and 14 days. Professionals may be able to wrap up projects on smaller homes in 7 to 10 days, while stuccoing large, multi-level homes can take more than two weeks. For the standard three-coat stucco system, six days are dedicated solely to stucco drying timelines, which are necessary after each coat.
Stucco repair can best be described as a patch. It involves identifying the problem and fixing that specific damage with additional stucco. If no mold infiltration or an underlying leak is causing the damage, repair is most likely all you need.
Remediation, on the other hand, involves removing the existing siding, fixing the underlying cause of the damage, and then reapplying stucco siding for that wall. It’s a more permanent fix that takes longer to complete and, hence, comes with a steeper price tag than repair.
The easiest way to remove stucco is to use a circular saw with a diamond blade to cut small squares out, pry them off, and then cut the metal lath behind it with tin snips. It’s possible to do everything with a hammer and a crowbar, but it will take significantly longer and will wear you out more quickly. Plus, you’ll have a higher risk of damaging windows, hidden siding, and sheathing if you go the less precise route.
Masonry screws are the best option to be used on stucco. They’re thicker and made to penetrate harder surfaces like concrete and cinder blocks. Fluted masonry screws work the best because they create a stronger grasp thanks to the lines on their shafts. If you’re working on exterior stucco, use galvanized screws to prevent corrosion.
