"Greg did an amazing job on removing the old patio, hauling the debris away, prepping for the new patio, pouring and leveling the concrete. Afterwards, he cleaned the area where he had work. Great work, good price."

"Gold Star installed a patio with fire pit, 2 walkways, and a berm at the center opening of my round driveway. The patio and walkways were stamped concrete and the results were outstanding! They had already installed a retaining wall for me and the patio was located below it, so it was quite the project. However, these guys did not hesitate to tackle this project and did so with complete confidence and competence. They work hard, stay focused, and give great customer service at a reasonable value. I would highly recommend, knowing there is not any project these guys will not do!"

"Juan is a very nice man, but he definitely overcharged for the amount of time it took to complete the job. The AC outlet that he rewired was done incorrectly and I had to pay electricians to redo it. I paid $4,250 for a total of about 60 hours work - over $70 per hour and they were not able to do the wiring correctly."

"The lawn was mowed perfectly, just the way I like it! It was well worth what we paid for. This was the first time your service mowed it. I will certainly use you again."

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.

Yes, including patterns, finishes, and plant integration for aesthetic enhancement.

The lifespan of a retaining wall varies based on its material, installation quality, maintenance, and local climate, with an average range of 20 to 100 years. Retaining walls made from durable materials like concrete, stone, and brick generally last a minimum of 50 years. Concrete walls typically last between 50 and 100 years, while brick can last for over a century in ideal conditions. Timber retaining walls can last from 20 to 40 years, depending on the wood quality, and pressure-treated wood walls average around 30 years. It is important to note that a retaining wall can fail prematurely if it was poorly constructed, for example, with inefficient footings or without necessary rebar reinforcements.

Yes, you can use cinder blocks for many purposes, including retaining walls, foundations, garage walls, and fences. Building a cinder block retaining wall costs between $60 and $200 per linear foot, including materials and professional labor. For a 30-foot-long retaining wall, the cost ranges from $1,800 to $6,000.

Most railroad tie retaining walls have a life span of 20 to 30 years, though you may need to replace your wall sooner if it’s repeatedly exposed to heavy rain, runoff, and excess moisture. Railroad ties are typically treated with creosote, which makes them much more durable than untreated wood. Though they last longer, they don’t last forever. For the most longevity, make sure your retaining wall has a sturdy base and steel reinforcements. You should also install drainage to direct water away from the wall.
