"I was considering either hardwood or carpeting to replace my very old upstairs carpeting (~1,000 sq. ft.). Since the premium carpeting we preferred was within a couple grand of hardwood, I decided to go with pre-finished hardwood. The next week it was installed in 2 days by a group sub-contracted by Empire. That group did an excellent job and the floor is beautiful and expertly installed. My wife and I simply sat downstairs and answered any questions that arose."

"He came and gave me an estimate of costs. I wanted the whole house cleaned--carpet and tile. I was then able to schedule the work right before Thanksgiving. Worked out great. Carpets had some pet stains I couldn't get out. They looked great when he was done. I plan to use him twice a year for carpets. The majority of the cost was related to all the tile work. Carpet cleaning was very well priced."

"Kevin and the Zack the technician did a fantastic job getting impossible black stains out of a light blue carpet. Kevin made sure he double checked the severely. Kevin reinterated that we should call back in a couple of months so he can check the carpet again. I'm highly satisfied with there service and carpet cleaning"

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

Carpet glue is very sticky, but it's not permanent. The glue usually lasts as long as a typical carpet installation, which is five to 15 years. For the best results, you should always use the right type of carpet glue for the area you're using it in. There are carpet glues for high-traffic areas, which are more high-quality and durable than others.

When it comes to flooring installers, licensing laws vary from state to state. Even if your state doesn’t require your flooring installer to have a license, your municipality or city might, so it’s a good idea to check with your town before getting started. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines.

Hiring an unlicensed flooring installer could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

Taking carpet off stairs is an easy but multi-step process you can usually do yourself. If you have the right tools, time, and oomph to finish the job, removing carpet from stairs can be an easy-to-medium difficulty task, depending on your stairs, the type of carpet installed, and how willing you are to get your hands dirty. It’s important to review the process, gather the right tools before you begin, and follow a tutorial or directions while you work.

Avoid plush, high-pile, or thick carpets on your stairs because they can increase the risk of slipping and wear down quickly in busy homes. Also, ensure the carpet you install is stain-resistant, particularly if you select a light color.

A stair runner can be cheaper than a carpet and will definitely save money over the cost of refinishing hardwood floors and stairs. The price depends, however, on the fabric and quality of the runner. A wool stair runner can be more expensive than an inexpensive polyester carpet and vice versa. Keep an eye on your budget, knowing that the higher quality the carpet and the carpet pad, the better the carpet will wear over time.
