"Have had Above & Beyond do LARGE tree removal / stump grinding jobs 3 times in last two yrs. Courtney in the office and all crew members are great to work with. Worked for an electric utility for 46 yrs. These crews are as experienced and trained as well as any crews used in storm / tree removal for power restoration that I ever worked around. Their speed is amazing while maintaining excellent safety conditions at all times. An analogy would be a concert where everyone works together and solo when required. A&B has the best equipment â using a 70 ft. bucket truck for our last 80+ ft. tree removal. The crew are great to talk to and seek your input. They clean up and when they leave, the debris leaves too. No depressions in the yard where outriggers were. Happy to find such an excellent business !!!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

A palm tree's lifespan typically ranges from 40 to 100 years, though some species can live much longer. For example, certain types of Date Palm trees can live for over 200 years. The exact longevity of a palm tree is influenced by several factors, including its species, size, climate, and growing conditions. To maximize your palm's lifespan, provide proper care and maintenance, such as ensuring it gets enough sunlight, water, and nutrients, and protecting it from pests and diseases. For expert maintenance tips, consider consulting a professional arborist.

You can use herbicides to prevent roots from growing without killing the tree itself, however they must be used with caution. Systemic herbicides are absorbed by the root and can kill off problematic roots. However, herbicides can sometimes negatively impact nearby plants, so the solution is best used sparingly.

Any cutting of tree roots can hurt or kill a tree, which is why it's recommended you don’t do it unless the roots are damaging or invasive on a nearby structure like your home. You should never cut more than 15 percent of above-ground tree roots at one time. If you have any questions about cutting tree roots, contact your local arborist.

Using Epsom salt to kill a tree stump typically takes between six and 12 months. While this may seem like a long time, it is significantly faster than the natural decomposition process, which can take up to seven years. This method is a viable DIY option for stumps that do not pose an immediate hazard. If you need a faster solution, you can hire a professional for stump removal or grinding, though this may cause more damage to the surrounding ground.

The best time to trim trees is in late fall through winter when the tree has slowed its growing for the year. Cold weather stops insects and fungal growth from attacking a new tree wound. Summer and fall are considered the worst times to trim trees, but it’s permissible in certain scenarios, such as tree disease, damaged branches, or small, aesthetic cuts.
