"This crew is very good... Asphalt Sealing: This is all done by hand... Such a group of hard-working guys... This year they are using a rubberizing product in with the asphalt... Driveway sure is very nice... There is no way we could have done this ourselves...Well worth it."

"Steel Curtain stripped our church parking lot in 2025. They completed the work in a timely manner, communicated well, and had a competitive price. We would recommend this company and would use them again. 1-14-2026"

"I didn't get competitive bids but feel I got good value for my investment. The step from the walkway to the front porch was not done correctly, making too high a step. (a Bob Buescher home). So the step was removed and replaced. Very attractive and much more comfortable to use."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Whether you should resurface or replace your asphalt driveway heavily depends on its condition. If the foundation is solid and the damage is minor, resurfacing is your best bet because it’s more affordable and faster than replacing the driveway. But if your driveway has foundational problems and/or severe damage, like large, deep cracks and potholes, then it makes more sense to replace it.

Regular cleaning, sealing, and timely repair of cracks help maintain its condition.

The three most common types of asphalt are hot asphalt, MC cold mix, and UPM asphalt. Hot asphalt is used most often for paving and patching roadways while it’s hot and workable. MC cold mix asphalt cures more slowly than hot asphalt, but it can be used for temporary patches and repairs in low-traffic areas. UPM is also used cold, but it can be used as a longer-term fix, usable in almost any conditions at almost any temperature.

If your driveway is cracked, you can repave it with a process called asphalt overlay. Overlay is more cost-effective than a full replacement but is better suited for minor cracks and issues. If you have major cracks or other problems like water pooling, asphalt overlay isn’t your best bet. Plus, paving over a cracked driveway only extends the lifetime by about 10 years, whereas replacing it would start the clock over completely to give you up to 30 years.

An ideal driveway gradient is between 2% and 5%. Anything lower than 1% or higher than 15% can cause problems for your car or property. A driveway with less than a 1% slope increases your likelihood of flooding and water damage, while a driveway with a 15% grade or higher can be too steep for safe traveling.
