"Exploring for home maintenance work, I tapped into Angis List and contacted two suggested service companies. Oreo was prompt to contact me for details on the job. He pursued an onsite visit and noted all concerns followed by a same day bid by email. I received followup calls over a period of 3 months, finally determining to complete the projects in October 2024. Once the decision was confirmed, the project specialist reviewed the list of work on site the same day the contract was signed. My home was scrapped and painted, shutters removed and repainted, along with repairs to the eves, replacement of porch light frames and restoration of a desperately deilapidated fence. Communication and integrity are earmarks of this service agency. Both the contractor and the worker completing the project, were consistent in keeping me informed of the project and pursuing my approvals as the work progressed. The work quality was exceptional. I would recommend Oreo Maintenance without hesitation, Great Job Guys, reminiscent of the past 2 generations of pride taken in the craft and the job. Always put your name on your work. Thanks!"

"Their name says it all. I initially hire a different handyman who kept cancelling, not showing up and making excuse after excuse. I then turned to Matthew at Reliable Handyman Services and what a stark contrast. He answered the phone every time, showed up as promised, did outstanding work at a very fair price and completed the job on time. We couldn't be more pleased! Thank you Matt!"

Caulking Services questions, answered by experts

In IL, winter freeze-thaw cycles cause frost heave, making posts lean even when the wood is perfectly sound. This requires resetting the footing rather than traditional mailbox repair. Sudden, severe damage from a city snowplow requires a different process, as you should file a municipal damage claim instead. Additionally, clay-heavy soils cause gradual sinking, which points to a foundation issue rather than a deteriorating post.

Helpful?

In Springfield, most handyman projects involving structural changes, electrical work, or major plumbing require permits from the Springfield Building and Zoning Division. Electrical and plumbing work may also need licensed professionals, as regulated by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Always confirm requirements with the Springfield Building and Zoning Division before starting, as even some exterior repairs may need approval.

Helpful?

The success of mailbox repair depends heavily on footing depth. Springfield has a deep frost line, so posts require footings set at least 28 to 30 inches deep to prevent winter heaving. Local clay soils expand and contract, making gravel drainage collars essential around the base. You must also choose rust-resistant metals and treated woods to withstand heavy winter snowfall and harsh road salt exposure.

Helpful?

For a smooth handyman project in Springfield, plan exterior work during milder months to avoid weather delays. Source materials from local suppliers for quicker delivery, and schedule waste removal in advance. Confirm if your project requires permits, especially for plumbing or electrical updates, and request references from Springfield homeowners to ensure you’re hiring reputable professionals familiar with local home maintenance needs.

Helpful?

After completing handyman work in Springfield, schedule seasonal maintenance such as gutter cleaning each spring and fall, and inspect caulking and weatherproofing before winter. The Springfield Building and Zoning Division recommends regular checks for leaks, loose fixtures, and exterior damage to prevent costly repairs. Keeping records of permits and inspections can also help with future home sales or insurance claims.
