For 35+ years, Roofs by Rodger has been installing quality roofs in Champaign & surrounding areas. We also offer gutter installation, gutter guard installation, siding installation, and window replacement.

"I had used Roofs by Rodger before and they came same day after 1 phone call and did a good job. This time it was totally different. My first phone call I left a message, no one ever called me back. My second phone call a spoke with a person who said someone would call me back about coming to do an estimate. No one ever called me back. After my third call someone came and did an estimate that same day, now a week after my first call. The estimate was left on my door and I was told I had to sign and mail it back. I couldn't approve the estimate over the phone. So I mailed it, and another weeks goes by without hearing from them. I call again and finally someone comes and fixes the roof. But they use light grey shingles on my dark grey roof. It's hard for me to believe they could not do a better color match. In the end the roof got fixed but I'm not very happy about the process or the end result."

Though people use the terms interchangeably, there are some notable differences between wood shakes and shingles. Wood shakes are hand-split from trees and thus have a more textured appearance. Usually, one hailstorm with pea-sized hail won’t damage your roof, but if you see other damage to your car, grill, and other property, it may be worthwhile to get in touch with your insurance company and have a local roofer come out for an inspection.

Roof raking can damage shingles if improperly done. Be sure to use a rake that’s designed specifically for removing snow from a roof, and don’t use excessive pressure. Light, consistent pressure to pull down the bulk of the snow is all that’s needed—if you clear right down to the shingles, you’re probably using too much force and risking roof damage.
