It went very well and I was pleased with their work. They cleaned up before they left, you wouldn't have even know they had been here.

Eric Hess was extremely easy to work with and very professional. He was quick to come to my house and give me a detailed estimate for the work that was needed. He thoroughly explained the issues that I had in an easy to understand manner. Once they started work, he and his crew made sure to cover the areas of the roof they would be walking on with pieces of carpet to prevent damage to my shingles. We had very unique textured bricks that would have been impossible to exactly match. Eric found a close replacement and even sent a load back to his supplier when he didn't think that they were the correct color. I'm no masonry or chimney expert, but I believe that he really knows his stuff. He rebuilt the crown much stronger than the previous one and made sure to use 4 inches of concrete, and not the cheaper mortar that was used before that led to serious cracks and water leakage. The finished chimney looks great and matches as well as can be expected with our very unique brick type. I have every confidence that the chimney he built is very solid and well-built and will fare much better than the old one. I highly recommend Hess Masonry.

When we were considering purchasing a home, Eric did an estimate for the work needed to repair the foundation and chimney. He was able to check it out quickly and his advice saved us from making a costly mistake. We didn't end up buying the home and thus didn't have him complete the work, but if something comes up in the future he's the first person we'd call. Thank you for your help Eric!

Eric Hess is a master mason. I have hired him many times over the years. Originally he dealt with some bowing in an old brick foundation and the job was perfectly done and reasonable. Most recently he replaced a crumbling limestone block on my craftsman house chimney, matching the existing brickwork and completely keeping the original look of the house. His work is impeccable, perfect in every way, with a great eye for details and never cutting corners. I would recommend Eric for anything.

The approximate top 25 rows of bricks on my chimney (exterior) needed to be replaced. Eric did his best to match the color of the brick to the old (the brick used on the chimney is no longer available). He also replaced the concrete cap on the top of the chimney and checked to make sure the two flues were in good shape. He also cleared away all of the English ivy which was growing on the chimney and chased away a family of raccoons. He did all this work immediately, putting another job on temporary hold, since the chimney was in such bad shape that a storm (which was predicted) could have caused it to fall. He did an amazing job at a very reasonable price.

Eric was able to come out to the house and start mortaring the basement walls within a couple of days after I spoke with him on the phone. He came by on three separate days to apply primer and coats of mortar to my basement walls to even some shifting which occurred as a result of the builder's poor construction. He evened the wall so that it was flush with the rest of the cinderblocks. He also closed off/sealed some crumbling blocks from the outside of the house which was causing wind and debris to come into the basement.
My only complaint is that he projected his price incorrectly. He said the project would likely cost $250-$350, based on a per hour price. In the end, he charged me $395, I think because he did not expect to have to come out to the house 3 times. I was expecting a price closer to $300-$350, but not $395. I didn't mind paying him $395, but I simply hate it when someone gives me an estimate and then does not tell me beforehand that the bill will end up being outside of that quoted price range. My advice is to get a hard final estimate in writing from Eric to be sure you know how much you will pay.

Eric and his team were great to work with. Great communication and did exactly what we planned. They worked fast and completed the job in 2 days. They did a wonderful job matching the mortar color and you can barely tell that the new section under the windows was not original. Everything was completed on time and he had the best price I could find. We are very happy with the quality of the worn and I will be hiring them again in the future for other projects.

Hess did a great job. All communication was prompt and professional, work was done quickly and to a high standard, and the price was very fair. I will definitely use Hess for future masonry projects.

We would use the firm again. This experiece has been a good one unlike many we have had with contractors. The work was done on time and well. The company returned our call quickly and gave us an estimate within two days after seeing the work site. The final cost was less than the estimate. The workers were careful not to make too much noise and even moved back any items that were moved so that they could do the work.

Over the past few winters, pieces of brick from the chimney were ending up on my front patio area. Eric Hess, the company owner, looked at the chimney, and gave a quote for replacing the brick that was breaking up, installing a new flue tile, and replacing the cap. His quote was $550.00; a competing quote I'd received was $3500 for a complete chimney rebuild down to the broken brick. When the work was started, it was found that the top two rows of brick were soft. These were torn off, leaving a chimney still within code for height above the roof. The top edge was protected with a concrete layer, the brick and flue tile replaced, and the stainless steel cap put on. It looks good, and it was an economical repair. Eric was very personable, professional, and happy to answer all my questions.
