"Tom was pleasant to work with. He returned the call promptly. Showed up the next day even though it was wet and snowy, he took care of the siding and tucked it back in. Fair pricing and work. Certainly to be recommended."

"The whole process was seem less from the moment I spoke with them. Arek was punctual, informative and made us feel comfortable. His team did a great job getting our roof done on time and it looks great. They cleaned up after and left our place looking great. We would absolutely use them again for any roofing or siding needs. Five stars all around."

"Overall it went very well. Conrad came to the house and measured the area. He provided an estimate the following day. I booked a date and time with Tanya, who were able to go to work pretty much immediately. William Harrison came to the house and had his crew to complete the job. He explained in the beginning what they will do and assured me they will do the work with least amount of damage. Which I am happy to say they did. It took only a day and a half to complete. This was really really quick for the amount of space they had to cover. I was really happy with their service. With the 10% discount I got from Angie's list they did all that work and disposed the asbestos for just under $6000. (I had several quotes from other companies higher than this) I didn't give an A for quality because there were just a couple nicks on the wall, but I have to say it was super minor. Also not an A for responsiveness as I was going to get a new proposal sent to me by email when I produced the discount but never received that email. Again though, that is really minor. I have to say I was really happy with their service. Dealing with asbestos can be a scary thing, especially when you are spending a lot of money too. This company I found to be very professional and explained what to expect and not to worry, they will make sure the job gets done properly. I also got a company in to get the air tested afterwards (cost $425). It passed the test and am now asbestos free. I highly recommend bluestone to anyone. You will without doubt be very pleased with their service."

Siding questions, answered by experts

The recommended PSI (pounds per square inch) for cleaning vinyl siding can vary, so it's best to consult the manufacturer's guidelines. Generally, vinyl siding can handle high pressure, from 2,500 to 3,500 PSI. For comparison, more delicate materials like wood and aluminum siding should not face more than 1,500 PSI. To safely disperse the pressure on vinyl, use a tip with a wider spray span, such as a green (25-degree) or yellow (15-degree) nozzle. For routine cleaning of light dirt, a garden hose with a spray nozzle may be sufficient. Always exercise caution to avoid using excessive pressure that could damage the siding.

For the materials alone, a square of siding costs an average of $600, but prices can range from $100 to $3,000, depending on the material. Vinyl siding costs toward the lower end of that range, while real brick or stone siding costs closer to the higher end. Keep in mind that many boxes of siding contain two squares, enough to cover 200 square feet, so you may need to double your cost if you only need one square.

Some homeowners use caulk on the edges of clapboard siding to help seal it. However, this method invites new problems. With so many gaps sealed, clapboard siding is often unable to drain properly and moisture from rain or other sources can build up inside. This can lead to rot and other issues over time. When repairing clapboards, it’s best to avoid caulking the final product. The exception is trim around windows and doors, which should be caulked to avoid moisture problems.

Not always. The answer depends on your specific vinyl siding product. While some manufacturers advise against pressure washing, others recommend pressure washing as long as pressure is kept below a certain threshold.

Concrete log siding can last several decades, from 30 to 50 years or more, as long as you keep up with proper maintenance. Luckily, concrete log siding is much lower maintenance than typical types of wood siding, so you’ll also have fewer expenses during that time. To keep your concrete log siding in good shape, you’ll simply need to reseal it every two to five years. Confirm with your manufacturer to determine how often to reseal.
