"Mighty basement did a great job on my basement remodel. I had company coming in July and Scot Coleman made sure the remodel was completed by my target date. He was supervising the job and did a tremendous job. Scot was very professional but at the same time was attentive to what I wanted. He was great to work with. I would highly recommend Might Basements and bath."

"They went above and beyond. They treated my house like it was theirs. They wouldnâ t just put my roof on but they checked to make sure it was ok to put the new shingles on. They were respectful of my premises. They got the work done and cleaned up all their messes. I would hire them again because they are very honest!"

"They are very professional, the owner communicates well on time frames and arrives on time. I have no complain about the job I absolutely love my remodeled home. He is great on explaining the quality of the material I was choosing a cheap flooring and he showed me the value of better flooring and I'm so glad he did because I'm in love with my floor. He is very detail orient with his jobs."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

The time it takes to finish or remodel a basement can vary significantly, ranging from a few weeks to several months or even up to a year. On average, the construction phase can take four to eight weeks, but the total project time can extend to three or four months when including planning and permits. The timeline depends on several factors, including the basement's size, design complexity, the scope of the work, and your contractor's availability. A more detailed breakdown for an average-sized basement might include: framing (3-5 days), electrical and rough-in plumbing (3-5 days), drywall installation (5 days), flooring (2-3 days), and final touches like painting and trim (about a week). If preliminary work like installing a waterproofing system or addressing structural issues is needed, the timeline could extend to six to twelve months. Factors like difficult access, material transport, and ventilation needs can also add to the project's duration.

There are several small, inexpensive upgrades you can make to upgrade your basement. Although you still need to adhere to building codes and obtain permits when necessary, you can complete small but mighty tasks like painting the masonry walls and installing entertainment devices to make the space more usable.

Making a window in a basement larger costs an average of $4,200. You’ll need to pay an average of $550 to have a structural engineer plan the project, $500 to $1,500 for the installation labor, and an average of $2,200 for the excavation and window well installation. The remainder will go toward pulling permits, installing trim, and repairing drywall on the interior.

Permits may be required for major repairs, structural work, or electrical and plumbing restoration after a flood. Check with your local building department to determine permit requirements and associated fees for your flooded basement cleanup project. Obtaining the correct permits helps ensure work is done safely and up to code.

Yes, you can install a summer kitchen or kitchenette in your basement. They serve similar purposes as outdoor kitchens, keeping the main floor of the house cool and providing another space to cook and congregate. Basement kitchens are also a worthwhile alternative for homeowners without much space in the backyard. They come with a few logistical questions to sort out, though, like ventilation and waterproofing.
