"Given the awful circumstances (house fire), we had a great experience with AC Environmental. They were quick, courteous and professional. As with every service, problems can occur. How a company reacts to a problem says a lot to their commitment to the customer. There was a minor problem in removing our asbestos, I called AC Environmental and Dustin was out at our house resolving it within hours! I was surprised and very pleased."

"I can’t say enough good things about Accredited Roofing. From start to finish, the experience was outstanding. Their representative Steve was professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly easy to work with. He took the time to explain the process, answered all my questions, and made sure everything was handled smoothly. The restoration team was just as impressive. They showed up on time, worked efficiently, and delivered top-quality workmanship. The attention to detail really stood out, and the final results exceeded my expectations. My property looks amazing, and it’s clear they take pride in their work. If you’re looking for a roofing company you can trust, Accredited Roofing is the real deal. Highly recommend Steve and the entire team!"

Small jobs welcome

"I used Scope Environmental recently to test floor tile and the underlying mastic to determine if either contained asbestos. I selected Scope because Jeff was very responsive, professional, independent of the abatement companies and his price was competitive. Jeff suggested testing both the tiles and mastic. The tiles tested positive for asbestos but the mastic contained no asbestos. As a result, I saved considerable expense by abating the tiles only and not the mastic so I also used Scope again for the post abatement air testing rather than the abatement company. I would hire Scope again for material and air testing for asbestos, mold or any other potentially toxic materials."

"Due to my recent diagnosis of cancer, I will be getting the asbestos testing sometime soon. Even tho I have not had the actual service yet, the gentleman from this company was so kind, and so knowledgeable. He explained a lot about it, how it's done, etc. He reached back out to me to see if there was anything he could do, questions answered, etc.."

Asbestos Removal questions, answered by experts

In the event of suspected or confirmed asbestos contamination on the body, it is imperative to take immediate measures to reduce health risks. To avoid further exposure, carefully remove contaminated clothing and shower thoroughly to remove any asbestos fibers. Seek prompt medical attention, and inform your healthcare professional about your suspected asbestos exposure. Since asbestos-related health issues can take years to surface, regular medical check-ups are advised for anyone with a history of exposure.

Some pros may recommend covering a popcorn ceiling that tests positive for asbestos with beadboard ceiling planks or drywall. The cost to install a beadboard ceiling averages more than $5,000, but you likely will pay more than the average for the installer to deal with the asbestos safely. Installing a beadboard ceiling or new drywall will disturb the asbestos and release some microscopic fibers, so the installer will need to take precautions.

You are not really supposed to seal asbestos with paint, but in theory it could work—the caveat being that this is extremely dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. The only real way to seal asbestos is with the professional application of an encapsulating material like epoxy. Due to the negative effect asbestos can have on your home, however, it is usually the best course of action to accept a costly fix and remove the material entirely.

Scraping off asbestos siding is extremely dangerous. When asbestos is inert, it does not pose a risk, but once disturbed, the fibers enter the air that you breathe and can cause irreparable damage. Professionals may scrape it off, but they will have more protective equipment and specialized tools that most homeowners do not have on hand.

Asbestos is a carcinogen, meaning it increases the risk of cancer. Inhaling asbestos fibers is linked to several respiratory issues, including asbestosis, or scarring on the lungs, lung cancer, and mesothelioma, another type of cancer. There's also a link between asbestos exposure and an increased risk of colon cancer and other cancers of the digestive system.

Usually, the people most at risk for disease related to asbestos exposure are those who spend a lot of time working around the material without protection. Electricians who work with asbestos wire have a higher risk of developing mesothelioma or lung cancer due to their exposure.
