The tech again came out and claimed it was another leak in a different spot although the leak inside was in the exact same spot. "We were referred through Menards. Ronald Lyman blamed my husband and told him he burned up the engine. This was a new power wash that was used once and then broke. It was under manufacturer warranty but needed the gas out and something from him saying it was broken for Menards to return. He has hidden diagnostic fees of $40, no contract verbal or written for these fees. He did not tell us about the fees until we were ready to pick it up. I was under the impression that he was contracted through the company and that is how he is paid. He also told my husband that he didn't look how he sounded over the phone. My husband is from Mexico but has lived in the states for over 35+ years as a naturalized citizen. I am so sick and tired of the racism and people being taken advantage of! I have also complained to the BBB. We are taking the pressure washer back to Menards but because he was not willing to give us something that said it was defective we have to trade it for the same model. So we have paid $40 above the price. Ronald Lyman told my husband when he picked it up that he didn't listen just like his wife. He is very disrespectful. Then he tried to say he called the manufacturer and they were not familiar with the engine, that it was made in China dn told him not to get another one."

You can expect a diesel generator to last for up to 30,000 hours of use, which works out to 20 to 25 years with the proper maintenance, of course. That depends on how much you use it, so a diesel generator used for emergencies a couple of times a year will last a lot longer than a generator that takes over for a faulty electrical grid every month for a day or two. 

Generators are usually sized by running watts and starting watts. Ideally, you’ll want a generator that can offer both the necessary running watts and starting watts for everything you need to power without going beyond 90% of its capacity. Calculate your home’s electrical load based on the breakers in your home or adding up the appliance and lighting needs of connected rooms.

While the rating will tell you how many watts the refrigerator needs at the peak of its cycle, it requires additional wattage to start. At the bare minimum, you’ll need a 1,500-watt generator to get the fridge up and running after a blackout. A 2,000-watt generator should be sufficient for most home refrigerators.

As long as they have enough fuel, whole-house generators can run for weeks at a time (400 to 500 hours) without suffering too much wear and tear. However, this type of extensive use isn’t ideal if you want to extend the life of your generator.

Two important points. First, some generators may need you to periodically check oil levels every day or so and refill as necessary for safe operation. Second, if your generator uses a fuel tank, keep it regularly full so it doesn’t suddenly shut off. Many backup generators can run through a full tank in a day when they are powering large portions of a home.

It is safe to run a generator continuously, but you must follow safety protocols to ensure personal and home safety. Read the manufacturer’s instructions for specific recommendations, but the general recommendation is to turn generators off overnight or when you’re away from the house. Overworked generators can pose a fire hazard and if your generator is not in a well-ventilated area, running it continuously could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.
