"Ramiro was nice and showed up when he did he would. He even let me know the day he was supposed to do the work that he was delayed and rescheduled. However, once he was completed, I noticed some dead twigs in a few bushes and some weeds still in the mulch area. I text him to stop by, he said he would but never showed back up."

"Great job. Cleared weeds, bushes, and trees. Added mulch and river rocks after laying down plastic. Big job. Spent four days doing work at a fair and reasonable price. Likeable and easy to work with. Will be contacting him for future work."

"We originally needed a damaged tree removed but the city of Wheaton removed it. We then needed the stump ground out and some branches removed from a different tree. We contacted Fernando's and his son came and gave us an estimate. We were pleased with the estimate and contracted them to do the work. They were very professional, got the work done quickly and completely cleaned up our yard. I would recommend Fernando's Tree service to any one that needs tree work done."

"It was a large front and back yard and the grass was over 6" tall. There are also tree roots which makes it hard to mow. The gate is only 36" but they managed to get a wider mower through but ideally, a riding mower would be perfect. They trimmed around edges which was good. They had to be careful around the above ground soft sided pool. They did a good job but the price was $450.00 which I thought was high. I might have gotten other bids if the grass was not so high. I did not opt for weekly mowing at $135.00 as I am living on Social Security and my budget does not allow for that so I will maintain it myself. They cleaned up nicely and they showed up on time so I would recommend them. It is my problem that this economy prevents us from spending where we might like to. I appreciate the job and Angi for checking up. Thank you."

Weed Services questions, answered by experts

Yellow leaves and stems on your sprouts indicate they’re not getting enough light. Keep them near the appropriate light source and give them as much as they need (they require longer exposure to fluorescence than they do to natural light sources).

Like sugar, the common household staple baking soda has uses in the yard. Baking soda boosts your plants to resist pests, fungal growth, and more. So, baking soda is good for your plants in certain instances, but exercise caution, as using too much could kill your plants. It’s great for hunting for pesky weeds, but not great for tending to a sensitive garden.

No, it's not really possible to completely prevent weed growth. Weeds are incredibly resilient—all they usually need is a tiny bit of dirt to sprout, so their eventual appearance is pretty much inevitable. However, you can definitely keep them at bay by getting rid of weeds as soon as you notice them. The longer you let them sit and grow roots, the more they'll spread.

You should add 1 to 4 inches of mulch, depending on your garden type and needs. Keep in mind that no amount of mulch can completely prevent weeds, but a heavier coverage (closer to 4 inches) can suppress weeds enough that you are only seeing them sprout every few weeks. Finer mulch prevents weeds more effectively than large mulch, so if you’re using mulched leaves or shredded bark, 1 to 2 inches will likely suffice, while 3 to 4 inches is best for larger mulch, like bark chips or straw.

Weed control applications usually cost around $100 each for a standard-size yard, and most professionals charge between $30 and $60 per hour for manual weed removal. Your total is affected most by the size of the weeded area. Some weed service companies offer weed control treatments, selective herbicide spraying, and manual removal and upkeep as part of a package, costing around $600 annually. You might pay less if you hire the same company for other lawn services, like flower bed upkeep, aeration, overseeding, and pesticide application.
