"Petey was super quick to respond to my post. He came out to do the estimate quickly and got the job done a few days later as requested. His price was super fair and he and his partner were absolutely fantastic and the job was done perfectly. I will definitely be calling on them again when it comes time to do all the plaster in the house."

"I received a response within minutes of requesting information from Angi for prospective contractors. Sent multiple pictures to Nicolas with a variety of issues that needed taken care of along with a brief explanation of what was needed. He sent me a quote and scheduled me expeditiously. He showed up on time, kept me informed regarding what was going on, did things that I hadn't even said needed done. He saw it, it was simple fix on the wall and he took care of it. Beyond professional and will definitely be hiring him again to take care of more work when I'm ready for that to be completed. I've already referred him out to two friends! Amazing and professional, work looks great! Heck he even fixed some screw ups that the builder jacked up years ago. You will not regret hiring this business/contractor."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

It’s not a good idea to plaster over broken plaster (unless by broken you’re referring to cracked, in which case that’s perfectly fine). However, broken plaster can be a sign of a larger underlying issue like foundation damage or severe damage to the lath holding up the plaster, so it’s worth investigating before you simply plaster on top of the damage.

While it’s most common to sand plaster dry, it is possible to wet-sand plaster, too. Doing so can reduce the amount of plaster dust released into the air and make it easier to work in smaller, more delicate areas (such as around wall trim). However, some people find that wet sanding leads to more imperfections, which is why larger walls are more often dry sanded to ensure an even finish.

The amount of drywall you need for a 1,000-square-foot basement depends on the ceiling height, angles, number of doors and windows, and more. To find the wall square footage, multiply the width and height of each wall, minus any gaps from windows or doors, and add the totals together. You’ll also need enough drywood nails or screws to install the drywall correctly.

There are a few ways to figure out if your walls are plaster or drywall, but the pushpin method is probably the easiest option. To try it, choose a part of your wall where you can insert a pushpin or thumbtack without leaving an obvious mark. If it goes in easily, you have drywall. But if the wall is tough to penetrate, that’s plaster.

Damp plaster does dry out, although the drying time depends on several factors, including the type of plaster, the surrounding temperature, moisture content, and the extent of the dampness. Sometimes, it can take weeks or months for wall plaster to dry naturally.
