"AMG pressure washed our gutters and unclogged the downspouts. They actually were able to work our project into their schedule earlier than anticipated. They were professional and cost effective, I will contact them again for similar types of work."

"Jason arrived on time (actually 5 minutes early) and was extremely courteous, professional and efficient. He was very precise and thorough in performing moss removal using special chemicals on the north side of our house as well as washing all outside windows (two story house). Jason is personable and demonstrated a strong work ethic. He brought all the necessary equipment (pressure washer, ladders, etc.) to do the job well and he wasted no time at all. Bottom line: Hiring Jason was a great experience !! Ray L. in Washington, Illinois"

Pressure Washing questions, answered by experts

Yes, pressure washing a wood deck can be a good idea as it effectively lifts ingrained dirt, mold, and mildew, improving the deck's appearance and longevity. However, it must be done carefully, as it's easy to damage the wood, especially softwoods. To pressure wash safely, use a lower pressure setting and a wide, 40-degree fan pattern nozzle (often white). Keep the nozzle at least a foot away from the wood surface and maintain constant motion, avoiding hovering in one spot to prevent gouging.

Whether you need to winterize your pressure washer depends on where it will be stored. If it's kept in a location where temperatures could drop to freezing, any liquid left in the water pump can freeze, expand, and cause severe damage to the machine. To prevent this, you can add antifreeze to the pump. While emptying the machine with compressed air is an alternative, it can be a tedious process and may not remove all the liquid. If you can store the pressure washer in a relatively warm place with no risk of freezing, you won't need to add antifreeze. However, regardless of storage conditions, it is good practice to empty the gas chamber and refresh the oil before storing it for the winter.

Not pressure washing your driveway can lead to several consequences that affect both its appearance and its structural integrity over time:

  • Reduced Curb Appeal: A dirty driveway covered in grime, stains, and mildew detracts from your home's overall appearance.

  • Safety Hazards: The buildup of algae, moss, and mildew creates slippery surfaces. When wet, it increases the risk of slips and falls for you, your family, and visitors.

  • Structural Damage: Dirt, debris, and organic growth can trap moisture against the driveway's surface. In colder climates, this moisture can freeze and thaw, leading to cracks and deterioration of the concrete or asphalt.

Concrete does well with a number of cleaning agents, as it’s a durable material. Choose from acidic cleaners, alkaline cleaners, and pH-neutral cleaners, in addition to antibacterial solutions. Your best bet is to simply read the fine print with your preferred detergent and make sure it mentions concrete as a viable surface.

The life expectancy of a pressure washer depends on the model, its overall quality, and how well it is maintained. Most pressure washers have a life expectancy rating, typically measured in hours of use. Many models are rated for up to 500 hours, which can translate to a lifespan of around 10 years for a homeowner who uses the machine for about 50 hours per year. If you plan on using your pressure washer regularly, you may want to look for a higher-quality model rated for 2,000 hours or more.
