I got vague blurb of the problem and my mom saying he said he broke something on the unit!? Took 3 days and me calling office twice before tech finally called me! And NOWHERE on the paperwork does it state that HE caused more damage to the unit than the original problem!"

If you don’t use the right PSI setting for your fence’s material, then yes, pressure washing can ruin your fence. Specifically, if you use a PSI that's too powerful, you may permanently damage a fence. Pressure washers can also remove paint from fences, though this can be a great thing if you’re looking to restore an old wood fence.

If you’ve looked at power washing before and after photos, you might be wondering if this option isn’t the better cleaning solution for a wood fence. In fact, it just might be, especially if you’re struggling with issues like mold or embedded dirt. Keep in mind that the only difference between these two methods is that power washing uses hot water and pressure washing doesn’t, but sometimes such a small distinction can have a huge impact.

While a pressure washer is certainly powerful enough to remove old and peeling paint, this is not a great idea to do yourself. The pressure washer is so powerful that you could actually damage the walls as you strip away the paint. It’s best to leave paint stripping to the pros.

A good psi for a general-use pressure washer is 2,000 to 3,000 psi. Some surfaces will require a softer touch, such as a cedar deck, which should be washed at the lowest setting, but heavier-duty jobs like removing stubborn stains from your driveway will need pressure at the higher end.
