"We called Pure Maintenance when we discovered mold in our attic and they were very responsive to our Angi request. They came out promptly, did a thorough review and provided photos of the mold extent. Unfortunately, they were not able to perform all of the services we wanted to have done so we opted for a different provider. I would recommend them for light mold restoration - everyone was very courteous, knowledgeable and professional."

"This is an awesome company and their service were superior. After purchasing a home in Decatur and thinking that when I purchased this house that the mole problem was remediated. The company T.I.C. was to remove the mold and they did nothing but paint the walls, it was a cover up. I begin to get ill and I called Healthy Homes. Caleb, Peyton and their crew oh my goodness they were wonderful. They were professional, respectful and yet personable. They explained what they were going to do and they tirelessly worked to remediate my problem. They got the job done, they removed the mold and everything else that had mold on it. They cleaned up after they were done. If I could I would give them a rating of 10 star. I would highly recommend this company. I promise you, you will not be disappointed. If you want the job done right, hire this company. A big thank you to these guys and God's blessings. Classie H."

"Great company to deal with, from the first phone call to the cleanup after the job. Honest, professional, on time, great work and a decent price. I could not find anyone within 50+ miles to do the entire job I needed (which involved mold remediation, paint scraping, joint repair, and water resistant sealing). I will probably use them again for other services."

"The work was completed12/17/10. I sent payment shortly thereafter. To date I have not received the post air sample results, copy of guarantee or any acknowledgment from from Guardian. I called Candy Harris and have no return call from her. I know it is the holidays but I still deserve some contact from calls and payment. I am going to attempt to contact them today. I am trying to refinance my home and this lack of communication is slowing the process beyond the deadline set by State Farm. I receive daily communication from State Farm and am upset I'm getting nothing from the people who did the work. I have questions that go unanswered"

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Powdery mildew is exactly like it sounds—a widespread mold that looks like baking soda or talcum powder. It’s usually seen on plants and spread in warm climates, which is why many people first discover this issue in their home greenhouse. Over time, plants have become resistant, but if you see it spreading, baking soda and water can eliminate many cases. Otherwise, consider neem oil or fungicide.

Many types of mold spores and fungi spores are constantly present in the air, but they need a friendly surface and moisture to grow. Should some of these spores land on paper or wood with significant moisture present—such as drywall with a paper cover that is soaking up water from a leak—mold or fungi could begin growing. Dampness from leaky pipes, condensation on windows, leaks in a roof, flooding in a basement, or high, prolonged humidity in a small area all can create the excess moisture that mold and fungi need to grow in your home.

While the air inside your home should have some moisture—the ideal humidity level is between 30% and 50%—too much moisture can lead to issues. Some ways to tell if there’s too much moisture in your home include condensation inside your windows, mildew growth in the bathroom or mold on surfaces, peeling paint, or an uptick in allergy symptoms.

Black mold and wood rot are both types of fungi that thrive in damp areas, but they are distinct issues with different consequences. Wood rot specifically refers to the decay of wood caused by fungi, which compromises the wood's structural integrity. Black mold, on the other hand, is a fungus that grows on the surface of materials, including both rotting and non-rotting wood. The primary difference is their impact: wood rot affects the wood's structure, while toxic black mold is a health hazard. Inhaling black mold spores can cause severe respiratory issues, whereas wood rot spores are generally not harmful to people. Because mold can grow on rotting wood, the two issues can be interconnected, but they are not the same.

No, heated floors are unlikely to cause mold. In fact, they can help prevent mold growth. The additional heat helps dry excess water and reduce condensation, which can lessen the likelihood of mold growth. Additionally, the heated floors can help reduce humidity near the bottom of the floor.
