"Paul owner of Get Flooring did a thourough job at my house. He delivered everything he promised to do. He responds to phone calls and does a follow-up when needed. I used his services for flooring, paint, carpet and backsplah. All his staff are knowledgeable and professional as well. They complete their task and do a follow up when needed. "Came on very short notice to save the day from sewage backup in our basement. Carpet has no padding but still had been stewing for nearly a week. But their anti-microbial and deodorizing really did the trick! Final bill matched their phone estimate so no punches pulled. Very efficient & professional. Had to move furniture around and very careful. Good guys!"

Carpet Installation FAQs, answered by experts

The average cost to install new flooring is around $3,162, with a typical price range between $1,530 and $4,860. On a per-square-foot basis, you can expect to pay an average of $3 to $22, including installation. Several factors influence the total price, including the flooring material, project size, geographic location, and any special features. Material choice is a significant cost driver; vinyl plank, linoleum, and carpet are on the lower end ($3 to $7 per square foot), while stone, tile, and hardwood are more expensive, with hardwood reaching up to $22 per square foot. Prices can also vary by region, and installing flooring on stairs will add to the cost, typically ranging from $11 to $160 per step.

In most cases, you do not need to put padding or underlayment under carpet tiles. Unlike traditional carpet, which requires a separate pad, carpet tiles are designed to be installed directly onto a firm subfloor like plywood, concrete, or tile. Many carpet tiles come with a built-in underlay and attach with peel-and-stick adhesive, double-sided carpet tape, or glue. For a more comfortable, cushioned feel, especially in residential settings, you can opt for padded carpet tiles that have a thicker underlay attached. While it's generally not recommended to install a separate pad, a compact underlayment might be used in some situations, though this typically requires professional installation. An acoustic underlay may also be considered in commercial spaces or multi-level homes where noise reduction is a priority.

In order to avoid long-lasting waves, indents, or sticking, it’s a good idea to wait at least 24 hours after fresh carpet is laid to put weighty furniture on top of it. However, you can begin walking on your new carpet right after it’s installed, and doing so can actually help it adhere to the floor better.

Carpet glue is very sticky, but it's not permanent. The glue usually lasts as long as a typical carpet installation, which is five to 15 years. For the best results, you should always use the right type of carpet glue for the area you're using it in. There are carpet glues for high-traffic areas, which are more high-quality and durable than others.

No, thick carpet padding isn’t necessarily better than thinner padding. The appropriate padding thickness will depend on the type of carpet and the amount of foot traffic in the area.

For example, thick padding works well in low-traffic areas, like bedrooms, where you have soft and plush carpeting. However, thick carpet padding can damage low-pile carpet, which is used in the busiest parts of your home (like hallways and entryways). For that reason, it’s best to use thinner, heavier padding underneath carpet in high-traffic areas.
