If you have central air conditioning, it’s fine to run your AC all day if that’s what you want—as long as the AC unit is in good condition. Window AC units and wall air conditioners aren’t as powerful as central AC, so you should only run those kinds of air conditioners for eight to 12 hours at a time.

While there's a cost to a home AC inspection, it can save you hundreds or thousands in the long run by catching problems, avoiding breaks, and saving you money on your utility bills.

A power outage can damage your air conditioner, just like a power surge can damage any electrical device or appliance. In most cases, your circuit breaker or built-in surge protection on your AC unit protects your AC and just needs a reset. But in other cases, it might be that your AC compressor or capacitor was blown during the power surge. You’ll need to have an HVAC professional repair or replace any AC parts.

If you run an AC with a dirty filter, it could allow dust and dirt to build up in your ductwork, which could make you sick.
